not 100% heat resistant
still seems to transmit heat if you hold the hot object too long...worked well for shucking though

These gloves are AMAZING, and definitely a necessity if you are using a mandonline slicer!
I ordered these right along with my new mandonline slicer (which I LOVE and also wrote a review for):http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002DTDMY2/and I am SOOoo glad I did! The safety-holder that comes with this mandoline is excellent, but there are definitely times when I need to cut things that I have to hold in my hand (such as multiple celery or carrots, which the food-holder really can't hold adequately). When I hold these things in my fist, I'm absolutely positive that I would slice the bottom side of my hand right off (remember I'm holding the pieces in my fist, not fingers). Before I used these, I literally TRIED to cut them on the mandoline blades, and wasn't able to, with normal speed and pressure. (I'm sure if I tried REALLY hard, I'd be able to cut them, but I only needed to make sure that they wouldn't get sliced through with normal mandoline speed/pressure/use, so I didn't push super hard or saw them back-and-forth, which may have eventually cut through them).I was very surprised at how flexible and well-fitting they are - they really don't feel much different than a normal pair of light-to-medium-weight knit gloves. I have a medium-sized female hand with slightly shorter-than-average fingers, and the medium gloves are perfect for me. Just a tiny bit of extra space at the finger-tips, but it's easy to pull them down snug. And they do not limit my finger motion nor dexterity one bit - I honestly didn't expect that! I thought they would feel stiff and confining, but they do not, at all. They are super-easy to clean after using - I simply wash them in the soapy dish-water that I wash the mandoline in, and then rinse and squeeze the extra water out, and hang over a towel-bar to dry. You can also throw them in your regular washing machine, but do NOT put them in the dryer! (I read that on the package). They don't take long to dry anyway, being a somewhat loose knit. If you have something like soft cheese that gets pushed into the gloves, just use a small scrub-brush on them, gently scrubbing in little circles - that worked well for me. I will NEVER be using my mandoline without these gloves - I love my fingers just the way they are and can't afford to lose any fingertips as they're short enough already! LOL! (and I'm a musician!) ;)Highly recommended!

They get the job done but would be amazing if they were dishwasher safe.
I received a pair of these gloves for free, to provide my honest review. I was actually excited to receive these gloves because my wife accidentally cut her finger on a cheese grater a couple of years ago and since then, it's been my job to grate blocks of cheese. I ordered their largest size which actually ended up being a bit tight for me but I probably won't be the one to use them so it's not a big deal. The gloves came in a plastic bag within an envelope. They're made with a tough fibrous material somewhat resembling steel wool but you can feel through them and they don't irritate your skin. I took a knife to my hand while wearing the gloves and didn't feel any pain. I wasn't trying to cut my hand off or anything but I wanted to see if I could cut the gloves themselves. I took the gloves off for my second test which was trying to puncture the gloves with a knife. What I found was the tip of the knife wouldn't go through the gloves -- even though I was putting a good amount of pressure into it. I'd imagine that the gloves wouldn't shield you from pain, but they'd keep the blade from entering your skin.As far as using the gloves with food, I'm happy to see they're machine washable. But at the same time, it would be even better if they were dishwasher safe. Putting them in with laundry is sort of a big deal since people don't generally do a load of dish towels every day. With them being used and not specifically stated as being safe to wash in the dishwasher, I'd recommend using them with foods that won't get the gloves too "saturated", if you will. Another great use of the gloves is when cutting very spicy peppers -- keeps you from getting the pepper juice on your fingers -- which inevitably makes its way to eyes.

No cuts & nice that there are two
I was glad that this came as a pair since many seem to come with one. The first time I went to use them I only put one on figuring there was no way to cut the other hand that was holding the knife and they looked like they would be difficult to clean. About ten seconds later with my new very sharp Mundial 5100 Series 6-Inch Boning Knife, Black sitting on the counter I brushed up against it and cut the hand that was not gloved! Yes, it is nice to have two! And when handling a lot of meat it also provides a small amount of protection from the cold. I tend to buy in bulk and cut up and freeze ~30lbs in one sitting so my fingers get cold. I also feel I get better grip on the meat with these on.The only thing I don't like is that they are hard to clean without putting in the washer. If I wanted to use them every day this would be difficult so luckily I tend to do all my cutting at once but still run into what to do with them if I am not ready for a suitable load of laundry (I would only wash them with towels not clothes and even then I scrub them with a dish crush and soap before I put them in). If you handle raw meat with them the weave ends up with meat packed in there!Also- I did a test by putting a grape in one of the fingers and tried cutting it. I did not want to ruin the gloves so I did not really try to cut through- I suspect I could- but I ran the knife across as I might when slicing and it did not go through. There have also been numerous accidental brushes where I know I would have been cut and was not so they definitely help. I doubt they are going to help in situations with great force but for basic slicing and de-boning they are very helpful!

Terrible not worth the price
This has to be my worst purchase, the first time I used them the knife just cut the tip of the glove off and my finger, the reason I purchased these was to keep my fingers safe. They wont stop a puncture and obviously a cut, they advertise anti slip glove well there just the opposite the silicone or whatever is on it is so slippery you can't hold on to anything, so don't spend any money on these you can get something as good or better at the dollar store. unfortunately I can't give it less that 1 star. I will invest in a pair of wire mesh gloves there more expensive but safer.

Protects hands well, but still cut-able
Recently I purchased a new mandoline (veggie slicer thing) and the blade on it is very sharp! The provided food-holder tool isn't very good at holding some of the larger, irregular-shaped, or smaller veggies, so I prefer to use my hands instead. These gloves have come in handy for that since I like having the reassurance that I won't be slicing off my fingers. I got the size medium gloves and they are about half an inch too long in the fingers for me. I still use them anyway, since all my fingers are covered.I was slicing an onion with the mandoline the other day and at one point the onion wouldn't go through the blade. I tried a couple more times before checking, and found it wouldn't go through because a glove fingertip was between the onion and the blade. I backed up the onion, adjusted my grip on it and kept going with the slicing. Afterwards, I noticed that the glove finger that had been caught, the fibers were sliced through a bit -- maybe something between 1/16th or 1/8th of an inch.So the good thing was, my fingers weren't in the very tip of the glove when I was slicing. If they were, I probably would have noticed earlier. But, by the same token, the cut-resistant glove did get cut. Probably not enough to damage my finger badly if it was in there, but there probably would have been some blood. Not quite sure how I feel about that.
