She's an amazing writer, my jaw was dropped for the first half of the book, which is what made the second half so disappointing. It's true that it loses steam halfway through. It feels like the author may have needed more time to sit with the work and revise. Still, I'm going to read everything else she's written. Her observational skills are unusually good, and I'm so excited about her!

The Clasp
Great read. Characters were interesting and intriguing, and the story line was quite fascinating. Loved the last chapter - a gift and a surprise!

Interesting idea and I liked the movement across America and Europe, but...
But the characters are irritating and in some cases too shallow or disgusting to want to stay with them. Too long a read to go along with all that.

I kind of enjoyed this book because I like to read novels by and about young people today, I don't mind "colorful" language, even tho I am 83. I did think that it was very interesting how she spent so much time getting the reader to know the characters before she told the story of the clasp. I am usually complaining about too much action and not enough development of the characters, so I should probably give this book at least one more star. I will definitely read another of Sloane's books

In The Clasp by Sloan Crosley, We meet a group of recent college grads who are learning about life in the ‘real world’ and pining for the easy breezy school days. This hilarious new fashioned coming of age tale begins at an island resort wedding where thirty-something’s, Kezie, Victor and Nathaniel see their trusted college buddy support systems dissolving before their eyes just when they need it the most. Welcome to the “Pushing 30” era, where friends are beginning to get married and everyone hates their job and wonders if this is all there is. Quick-witted Sloane Crosley takes all of these insecurities and weaves a complex tapestry, complete with mystery, intrigue, romance and travel adventure, neatly bound with classic literature thread. It is a smart, and very funny series of events that left me laughing out loud. There are metaphors within metaphors involving necklaces and the ties that bind in seeking the essence of love and friendship. This modern day quest plays like a classic mad capped road comedy. Sloane has been on my list of favorite writers for years and I am so glad that she is getting some recognition with this, her first novel. So you might say I was hooked by The Clasp!

Good concept, execution could be better
Although the plot is interesting, the historical and literary connections were what drew me in. However, I found the characters to be shallow and unremarkable.

Sounded interesting but...
The premise of this book sounded interesting. Sadly in reality it didn't grab me in the first few chapters and I didn't finish it (something I rarely do). Not my writing style.

The book didn't make sense to me
Had the writing not been as good as it was I would have said I didn't like this book at all. Silly story about a person who finds a picture of a necklace. He instantly believes this is the actual necklace in the fictional book by Guy de Maupassant called "The Necklace" . Why I ask, would an actual necklace exist for a fictional story? never did get that. Anyway, three friends meet up eventually in France and look to find this jewelry.Fortunately I read the Necklace when I was in grade school and never forgot the lesson learned from that great piece of literature. But this is not that.

Excellent, amusing book
A completely weird but compelling read. I never knew I wanted to know about enamel until I read this. Excellent, amusing book.

Fantastico!
Mi è piaciuto tantissimo. Ben scritto, tiene vivo l'interesse e non annoia mai. Molto bello l'intrecciarsi di diverse storie che convergono all'inizio e nel finale con suspence.
