Buffalo Bill

A good movie
Most of it was true, I do wish the people that wrote the trivia would do research before they make a fool of themselves. The end of the trail won first place at the 1906 Pan American exposition in San Francisco California. The model was bought and taken to Visalia California where it stood at the gate of Mooney's Grove Park till 1974 when the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma made a deal with the Park to cast it in bronze if they could have the plaster model. The Bronze statue now stands where the model used to stand and the model is in the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, not in Wisconsin as the trivia says.

It was engaging from start to finish.
I certainly got what I was looking for, truth, action as well as honor and compassion.

A Wellman/McCrea classic
Very progressive film for it's time. It shows Native Americans sympathetically in 1944 without whitewashing brutalities, while also showing both viewpoints from the white side.

Linda Darnell fans - Beware!
If you buy this film expecting to see the pretty Linda Darnell in a worthy role, watch out! Though she's billed third, she's in, perhaps, 15 minutes tops as a sulking, jealous rival for Buffalo Bill's love interest (played by Maureen O'Hara). All I can say is that Linda must have been on someone's "you know what" list to have been demoted from headliner to such a small (and unnecessary) role. I love Maureen O'Hara and bought this DVD mainly due to reading about the film in her autobiography, "'Tis Herself". Joel McCrea is believable as Buffalo Bill and must have been on "loan" for the part (I can't imagine any of Fox's players at the time in this role). Not the best story line, still enjoyable. I would recommend this only if you are a fan of McCrea or O'Hara.

very good movie
I enjoyed watching Buffalo Bill very much. I consider it one of the more classic westerns. It has a really good cast and you can't go wrong with Joel McCrea. The movie was filmed in and around Kanab, Utah so the scenery is really great. (Kanab celebrates their western film heritage with Western Legends Roundup every August.) If you enjoy the old westerns, you'll enjoy Buffalo Bill.

BUFFALO BILL 1944 DVD from FOX
Although I have been a western film fan for 60 plus years, there are still quite a number I have never seen, and this one, even though the battle scenes and others have been used countless times as stock footage. The first hour is simply a classic traditional western with the delightful exception that it shows the Cheyenne as the victims of the white man's greed and treachery. They don't want war, but when they ride....Director Wellman has captured some of the most spectacular epic battle scenes and used literally hundreds of extras. The Cheyenne are pictured as warriors to be respected and at the same time, feared. McCrea is just right as Bill and O'Hara matches him and is perfectly cast as an Eastern woman who comes to love Bill and "the west". The second half (or third) is about Bill's time in Washington, his fall from grace and mighty comeback. The DVD is excellent 4.3 ratio. Technicolour is brilliant and the subs are good. A lovely film and highly recomended. (P.S. Mitchell and Buchanan are on top form as Ned Buntline as Sgt "Chips" respectively).

Excellent western!
This dvd has a good picture and sound quality eventhough the film is rather old. The character of buffalo bill comes out quite symphatetic and realistic. The story itself is also good and not centered only on fighting the indians, but also on his private life. All in all, I would gladly give this movie a five star!.
