Mild MCP Support for BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu)--PLUS a tip for making the thumb hole bigger!
I injured my MCP joint during jiu-jitsu class. My best guess is a RCL sprain. I was sick of taping my thumb before every class, and so I started my search for a brace. My Requirements--Light support, enough that I can still bend my thumb enough to grip my opponents gi.-Does not come to the tip of my thumb, covering the last joint (IP).-Soft enough as to not injure my teammates during training, or have velcro that would snag on a gi.-Comfortable enough to wear for 2-3+ hours at a time-Removable support is a plusI tried on at least six different braces while shopping around town. All of them had at least one feature that did not meet needs. Then I tried this one on. It fit great, except the thumb-hole was borderline too tight! The store only had the S/M size in stock, but I worried that going a size up would be too big. I am on the borderline on the size chart. (My wrist is 7in, my thumb is 2.5in.) After searching Amazon, and looking at a million other braces, I decided to go ahead and take my chances with this one. The price is low enough that it would not have been a big loss if it did not work.I put it on for my first class. It felt okay at first, but within minutes, my thumb was going painfully numb and I had to take it off. I planned to take it home, and work on stretching it out. After taking a closer look at it, I found a super easy way to make the thumb hole bigger!------Simple Fix to Make the Thumb Hole Bigger-------I have uploaded a photo to 'Customer Images' to show where I made the cut. Be sure to take a look.1) Detach the velcro strap from the thumb.2) On the inside of the thumb, the pocket of one of the stays attaches to the seam of the neoprene near the web of the thumb. The piece you will be cutting is made of the same material as the thumb strap.3) Without cutting ANY stitches, cut the fabric between the thumb stay, and the neoprene seam on the inside of the thumb. Be sure you do not cut any stitches, or the neoprene! The part that you need to cut is only about 1/4in long.(Disclaimer: I am assuming all of these braces are made this way. Perhaps not everyone's has this attachment!)Doing the above, solved the problem of the thumb being too tight! This brace now meets all of my requirements. I DID remove the bottom thumb stay, which decreases the support, but makes gripping easier. For my needs, this brace is excellent. It has held up well to the rigors of jiu-jitsu. I have been wearing it for about a month, and can see it lasting another two months before I will need to replace it. Hopefully, I will be healed enough by that time!

Great Relief!
These wrist and thumb stabilizers are wonderful. Fell and messed up wrist and arm. Pain in wrist was terrible making it impossible to sleep. Put on this support brace and I was so surprised when after a very short time the pain had subsided and I was able to sleep. Great product and improved over the ones I had purchased several years ago. I highly recommend!

Just a word of warning.
This does an OK job. And by "OK", I mean that pain is relieved when I use it. Fortunately, the painful thumbs are not constant. I can go for months at a time with no pain, but at the times when they do become inflamed I have a really difficult time. The pain often affects my sleep and renders my thumbs useless. I find that using the splint is a wonderful pain reliever. While I think I may have ordered a size too large, it gets the job done. Here's the only problem I have: Once I get it on, I have a terrible time getting if off again. I'd hoped that over time it would become less problematic, but it hasn't. I've never encountered such strong velcro on anything before in my life!. I can literally pull with all my might to release the strap around the wrist and can't get it off. It takes quite a bit of systematically working one tooth of velcro loose at a time. Occasionally, I feel panicked because I can't get it off, lol. Seems really silly doesn't it? I've tried only attaching only a small area of the velcro tab, but it still grips with amazing force. Maybe it's just this one. I hate to say it's even a problem, but it is. I'd like to get another and sleep with one on both hands, but I'm too afraid I'd have to go ask the neighbor to get me out of them in the morning.

Okay if you can stand to wear it.
This works okay at mobilizing my thumb when I can stand to wear it. Unfortunately, it cuts across the inside of my thumb and hand and really irritates me, turning my skin very red so I can't wear it. I have tried many different brands and almost all of them do the same thing to me. It's very uncomfortable. Fortunately, I'm scheduled for surgery in a few weeks to, hopefully, release the tendon and thereby eliminate the pain.

My favorite thumb brace - light beige color L/XL
I have basil arthritis in my thumb - no cartilage at the base of my thumb. Because of this, that tendon gets pinched and can become swollen from time to time. This brace provides enough and adjustable support for my thumb without restricting the movement of my thumb too much. The adjustment comes from two removable plastic braces, one on top of the thumb and another below. No braces = light to moderate support. One brace on the bottom = moderate support and protection from bumping that joint. Two braces = strong support that really holds your thumb in place and lets it rest/heal. Most of the time, I go with no braces or just the bottom brace inserted. I'm disappointed they discontinued it. Buy one while there are still a few out there.

False advertising
Incorrect advertising they show a black sleeve with lace straps but recieved a beige one with a velcro. This ad is false advertising I feel cheated on this purchase.

Awesome Service
It was great - couldn't even find the large size at the drug stores which is weird because men must have problems with thumbs as well or maybe because they didn't stay on the shelves long enough. Anyway a much better price from Amazon and no shipping costs - how can that not be a win win situation! Thanks again.
