Liber & Co. Almond Orgeat Syrup (17 oz) Made with Whole, Roasted Almonds

Excellent and interesting syrup. Looking back I believe this is my 10th orgeat -- and this one, by far, stands out from the crowd.Orgeats come in two primary varieties: Natural and made from actual almonds, and artificial (even if "naturally flavored") and made with some form of extract. I'd love to say that natural wins every time, but that's just not the case. Prior to now, for my Mai Tais (my main orgeat test drink) I've mainly preferred the artificial brands. (Check out my review history to see various cases; I won't name names here.)This orgeat is a game changer. Natural but with a well balanced flavor that only the artificial ones have hit for me to date. My new favorite, for sure.Let's start with texture. Orgeat gives cocktails almond flavor, but also should provide a significant amount of body and mouthfeel. The natural orgeats generally do well in the thickness category but some of them are gritty and weird. The artificial orgeats are sometimes too watery. This one is perfect: absolutely smooth, beautifully thick.Flavor? Check. Balanced but bold almond flavor, not too sweet. No weird tartness despite the inclusion of some citric acid. And, huge bonus, orange flower water already in the mix so I didn't have to add my own as I do with the artificial brands. The bottle recommends 3/4oz of orgeat for a Mai Tai, which is 1/4oz more than I usually use. And the bottle is dead on. Because this syrup is slightly less sweet than the artificial brands, you will have to use a little bit more. But the end result will be delicious.I used the term "interesting" above and color/visual is the reason. This orgeat, unlike any other I've ever tried, creates an extremely cloudy drink. Not cloudy in a gross way; I think it looks pretty cool. And I assume it's because of all of the almond particles floating around in the mix. This visual effect serves to step up the exotic nature of my drinks, so we're now at next-level tiki. (Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it for now.)Downside is of course price. At the time I'm writing this review, shipping is not free and the product even without shipping is significantly more expensive than the artificial brands. If you buy the larger bottle it's about in-line with the competing natural brands, but because this product is a bit less sweet you'll have to use slightly more of it. I personally don't go through orgeat all that quickly, so I don't really mind the additional investment, but I did feel it was worth a mention in my review.All in all an excellent product and one I look forward to using in a wide variety of drinks. This has great almond flavor and I use much less than other brands.

This product is excellent and delivers a very fresh almond, marzipan-like flavor. You'll notice it is not clear like some other products. I like this because it suggests that it's more than just a simple syrup with some extract thrown in, but actually contains almond milk. I bought another product just to try something different and it no way compares to this. That other product, unfortunately, is not returnable so I'm stuck with it. Rather than use it up and make inferior Mai Ties, I'll try to give it away. I went ahead and reordered this a second time and will do so again in this bottle runs out. This is the flavor you want to make it real Mai Tai. If you're looking for excellent orgeat, you can stop looking now and place your order. I think you'll be very happy with this product. Enjoy!

This is a great product. I've probably bought 5-6 bottles over the past couple of years. It's the key ingredient for a jailbird (the cocktail, not a criminal). Unless you're able to make your own orgeat syrup, this is the best one I have found and I doubt I could make my own any better. It's a little pricey but the lower cost brands you find in liquor stores don't come close to this product. I gave it 4 stars for ease of use because it does separate in the refrigerator and you have to shake the bottle for about 2 minutes to get it mixed again as it tends to stick to the sides. Minor issue.

This is very good Orgeat. I've made my own scratch Orgeat for years and this is close. It's a bit too sweet and it really has a strong orange blossom flavor, which it shouldn't. If you go through the trouble (and it is trouble) to make your own, you won't have the preservatives in it. But, otherwise, this is the best commercial Orgeat out there. This is close to the proper stuff for a Mai Tai. Period. I did notice the Liber is inconsistent in color between batches.Don't waste your money on "Almond flavored" anything for use in a Mai Tai. Don't buy Orgeat that has anything but the correct ingredients. Almonds(I do not count almond milk), cane sugar, Rose or Orange blossom water. Done. Of course you may find a preservative in there too for commercial use.I believe I have tested every serious contender for Orgeat available and Liber & Company (Hey Liber & Co. your lids are awful) is the only one I'd use in a Mai Tai besides my own or another good hand made Orgeat.A little info. Orgeat neither smells nor tastes like almonds. (almonds don't smell, do they) And hopefully there's not enough rose or orange water in it to smell or taste like either. It should be thick and not too sweet. After all, you can control the sweetness of your drink with simple syrup. Originally Mai Tai's were made with J.W. (J. Wray) rum, not the current Appleton. The original rum is no longer available and the last of it was around $13,00 a bottle (it's up to around $43,000/bottle now). A lot of us have found that the mix of Smith and Cross and Blackwell, both Jamaican rums, is the best substitute for the long lost J.W.. A final note. Your simple syrup should be 'rich' simple syrup. 2 parts sugar, 1 part water brought to a boil and as soon as the mixture turns clear, take it off the burner.Makes a really good Mai Tai if you put a little less simple syrup.
