A wonderful ‘feel good’ story.
Well what a beautiful and humane book. It brought me to unexpected tears at regular intervals - and I don’t usually cry!The author has deep insight in her characters. They are real, i.e.flawed, but also they are very endearing - most of them anyway! This book is an important one I think, written with a lovely understanding of the human race. A wonderful ‘feel good’ story.

Must read!!
Normally it would take me about 3/4 days to read a book. This one I couldn't put down! Read in 10 hours (not in on go!!) but in a day and a morning. I didn't need tissues but got quite close. Characters really real. Full of love and definitely emotional. Enjoy, 😊

What a an amazing rollercoaster of a book
This is the only boom I've read that has had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I'm exhausted as I felt as I was walking right beside the characters and could feel everything they could due to the most beautiful way the book it written. You laugh, you cry,you feel it all. It's about grief,family,friendship,resentment,hope,love,2nd chances, loneliness, but also about how hard life can be but also how beautiful change can be. we need to appreciate what's around us and who's around us. Life is for living and take nothing for granted, you cant run away or hide from lifes problems, but there's always hope and love. That's what I've taken away from reading this book. Beth Miller is a true story teller that speaks from the heart.

An easy read
A good read for book club. Lots of talking points. Didn't connect to the characters very well. Some of the dialogue was awkward. Predictable but nice discriptive sections.

Complex family relationships.
Easy read once you worked out the characters. Would recommend to anyone wanting a book you just want to finish to know how things go. Good for discussion about relationships

Bear with me, I do have a point (eventually)
It has been a lifelong ambition of mine to read a book withing 48 hours of its publication and thanks to Kindle's wireless delivery I was able to achieve this with Beth Miller's latest work.Similarly until December 10 last year I had never seen a film on the day of its general release but then I saw Spielberg's take on West Side Story. So: two bucket list items ticked within a month. What the blazes am I going to do with the rest of my life?Anyway (and the point is drifting into sight here) , a stand out moment for me in West Side Story has always been Quintet, where Bernstein, supported by superb direction, singing , playing etc etc presents a magnificent symphony with an unforgettable coda (you can tell I am no musician but I hope those words make sense in context)And here's my point! So with Beth Miller and The Woman... In common with her other novels, the story/themes are not just splatted in front of you, or presented in a simple linear fashion but there are several strains all interwoven. A real orchestral work for the page. But such is her technical expertise, the reader does not have to worry about keeping all the plates spinning...Miller does that for you, so you can relax and wallow in (in this novel in particular) the heart breaking themes and the sheer , I don't know, probability of it all, even if it's not been one's own direct experience. There is a lot of dry humour in this book though I would say it is perhaps a tad darker than some of its predecessors. And not for the first time I have been caught in the paradox of not wanting to put the book down but equally not wanting to get to the end.The Jets are gonna have their way tonight....

It’s an incredible story
This book is centred on a main character named Pearl. It tells us of her childhood with her siblings, happy one minute until their father up and leaves them. We travel through Pearl’s life throughout the generations but don’t really find out many truths until the diaries appear. It also centres on another strong, capable female character named Caroline who fits in with everyone’s story as you unfold the tale. The time frame jumps from present day back to many different periods in Pearl’s life, often told in the form of a diary or Pearl’s own memory. It holds much tragedy between its pages, along with sorrow, unhappiness and heartbreak. It’s a book unlike any other I’ve read in a very long time and it is utterly wonderful.

Secrets and loss
Pearl has suffered many losses in her life, which caused her to run away from everyone she ever knew, until a coded message from the past reopened doors she thought had closed irrevocably.

Loved this book
Maybe it's because I'm no stranger to family estrangement, but I LOVED this book. Great characters, intriguing premise, and the doling out of family secrets at just the right pace.
