Welcome

This book was beyond expectations. Everyone refers to this as a story about global warming, which it most certainly plays an important role in the story, but it's also about the refugee/immigrant experience and about accepting those who might be different. It did it in a way that was totally understandable to my five year-old and it's made a big impression on her over the last two months since we received it. The illustrations are simple, but impactful. The words are sparse, but well chosen. They make points that are on-point, but at a child's level (of interest and understanding). I wanted a book that would help my daughter understand that effects of not accepting people as they are and this was just perfect.

came in wonderful condition. giving this to refugee children in school that are learning English. It is wonderful to have a children's book written in a refugee context. The polar bear finally finds a place where he is accepted and makes a new home. Heartwarming story.

Such a nice book- my 3 year olds love it. A simple easy to understand story about what it means to be inclusive and empathetic to others. Especially important this week. A keeper.

I love this book for the simple way it deals with exclusion and depicts the feelings of not being welcome. Well done for a child to understand.

Beautiful story, and accessible for young children.

After reading this book, without being asked about it or prompted by us, our Kindergartener told us, "This is a good book for teaching kids to be kind to each other." We couldn't get a better review than that.

A really great story that cleverly helps children to understand the motivations and needs of refugees, treating weighty issues with a light but effective touch.

A lovely book for our nursery as we have quite a few children who have arrived from abroad. The only thing that could have made it better was if the polar bears arrived at an island that did welcome them.

Lovely story with a subtle political message about global warming and immigration. Encouraging acceptance in the next generation.
