Sounds True Gifts of Imperfect Parenting: Raising Children with Courage, Compassion, and Connection

If you have read Brene Brown's other excellent books then there will be some repetition with this CD. She retells some of the stories you will have already seen (from her Ted talks or Oprah interview) or read. However, there is enough new material and sufficient parent centred structure to warrant the purchase. She is sensitive to the danger in regarding herself as a "parenting expert" given how difficult that process is. What she does say is that she is willing to work extremely hard and she has found some ideas that lead to greater engagement with her children. This doesn't give you an answer for every parenting problem you face. However, it will help you to figure out what is best for you and your children. Great stuff.My kids are still relatively young so I haven't done this but if they were getting into their teens then I would try to listen to this together and discuss what she recommends.Instead, I am applying the principles on this tape (and in her books) with my kids.I have given this 4 stars because of the repetition. However, it would be a straight (and easy) 5 if I had started with Brown's work with this CD. So if you are a parent and are interested in her work this could be the perfect place to start as it's got most of her key ideas and it's only 2 hours long so you can get a taste during your weekly commute.

So great, easy to listen to and apply. Would recommend to parents of children of all ages.

Doesn't matter how old your children are, this CD is all the parenting advice you will ever need. It all makes sense and is easy to apply to everyday life.Thank you Brene for being brave and sharing your research with us.
