Born in South LA
Born in South LA stirred up a sense of nostalgia as I reflected on my own childhood and the many stories that were handed down in my family and some that I’ve read. Now you can find them all in one place and a few new ones I didn’t know about. Growing up in South LA, I actually lived on the same street as a few of the legendary individuals highlighted in the book. Gilbert Lindsey lived on my street and Charlotta Bass lived right next door to my Grandmother. My Aunt used to write Dear Abby columns and was mentored by Ms. Bass. The list goes on but the people spotlighted in this book is what I know and love to be the many layers and the genius born out of South LA. This is a book you can hand down from generation to generation and I plan to do just that!

An inspiring celebration of Black history and culture in South Los Angeles
Born in South LA beautifully documents the significant contributions of African Americans in South LA. As a long time resident of Los Angeles, I feel like the vibrant history and culture of South LA is often overlooked. I'm inspired and proud to look through the pages and learn about some of the amazing African Americans connected to South LA. I'm looking forward to sharing these important stories with my family and friends.
