This is a very interesting perspective of Croatia's turbulent history-thanks very much, Barb.

Lost in translation... Hard to follow
This book is very poorly written. I imagine some of this is because of the translation to English, but the editor should have fixed those issues. The writing is unnecessarily wordy and circular, which makes it hard to follow the author's ideas and thoughts. Very hard read unless one already has an understanding of the topic.

informative
This book reveals the dynamics of the break up of the former Yugoslavia and the creation of the Republic of Croatia. The bias of the author is obvious but all the facts he presents in the book are easily checkable. I find the book compelling because it gives an understanding of the history of Serbian imperialism and how the idea of Greater Serbia was manifested first through the oppressive Communist regime in Yugoslavia and then through armed aggression and genocide after the break up of the country. Also, this book serves as a warning to Europe in light of Serbia's current saber rattling and confrontational initiatives in Bosnia and Kosovo.

Well worth reading
A glowing tribute to the courage, determination and perseverance of the Croatian people even when faced with indifference, obstructionism or worse from the international community. It is a pity that the first version was not proof read by a native English speaker but, hopefully, the updated version will have rectified this.
