A Useful Tool for Students of the New Testament
Students of the New Testament know that of the three Synoptic Gospels, Mark was written first and Matthew and Luke used it as the framework for their gospels. However, Matthew and Luke have over 200 parallel verses that do not appear in Mark. Through careful study, scholars have long theorized there was an even earlier gospel then these four, called The Gospel of Q. Q comes from the German word for “source.”Q, believed to have been written between 50 and 70 AD, has been reconstructed by scholars and two translations: one literal, the other colloquial are presented in this book. Mr. Mattison explores the history of its origin and development and relates it to Jesus both as a document of his wisdom and a record of history.Mr. Mattison has much Biblical scholarship under his belt, having translated the gospels of Mary, Thomas and Judas. He was also part of a team that translated a Divine Feminine Version of the New Testament from the original Greek.

Interesting read
This is broken into two sections. In the first the author, who has very evidently studied this and other texts to great lengths, gives commentary on his insight into what and where certain passages come from and mean. I personally thought the gender neutral forms of Jesus and God were a bit distracting but the other parts were thought provoking...even if I don’t agree with everything that was mentioned. The second section is the translation that is widely accepted.

Perfect
As expected, and entertaining

Thought provoking
We know the gospels were not original works. They were based on previous works, lost to time. This book tries to tease out the original concepts and ideas upon which the later gospels are based.

Not what I expected.
I guess I just don't like difficult to understand parables meant for regular followers of Jesus, who would likely know more about what those parables meant. I certainly don't know for sure, since I am reading words, remembered by others (maybe) 2000 years after the fact.Everyone will glean their own interpretations from these books, which I suppose is what is intended. I, for one, don't care for the guess work (mine) involved.

The words of Jesus were more believable.
More realistic on the words that Jesus said or would say at the time of the experience.

The text is printed so lightly. It’s hard to read
I was surprised to see how small the text was compared to the book size., the side margins are about an inch deal and the bottom margin is about one and an half inches. The text is just crammed into a small space.
