Start with this book
I started practising the bass a couple of months ago. I've tried countless apps and other online courses which cost over £150.The value for this is amazing - email Paul and he will give you access to the online book, tracks and instructional videos. I'm taken aback by the material he provides and the time he's taken to thoughtfully create the course. Each lesson is bite size and slowly builds up in difficulty. Paul really stresses using the correct fingering technique and breaks it down. There are 8 songs to learn which build up in difficulty and show the 80-20 devices.I finally have a sense of getting somewhere and look forward to working through the other books.

Get started with learning good technique
I'm a returner to playing bass. I first picked it up as a teenager (too long ago to calculate) but life got I the way and I effectively gave up. With a bit more time on my hands I decided to pick it up again, but most of what I knew I had forgotten. I chose this series as it seemed to offer what I wanted: a clear and structured path to relearning and developing my lost bass playing skills. And I have found it to live up to expectations and more. The sequence of lessons develops different aspects of technique so you never get stuck endlessly on the same thing. It aims to get you playing along with songs as soon as possible so you're not just doing joyless exercises, and with the extra online/downloadable material you aren't just learning from notes/tab on the page.

so thorough in detail
tbh haven't gone through much but I can see this has massive attention to detail and years and years of expertise. Author responds quickly to questions. Looking forward to making my way through it.

Excellent Book for learning Bass Guitar
Had this book for just over a month now and found it extremely helpful. You'll learn how to play correctly right from the start and the additional free online material, which include video and audio tracks as well as an electronic version of the book, consolidates and expands on the book and is definitely worth signing up for - You'll just need your proof of purchase to access. Totally recommend.

Great system. Excellent online resources. Fun. Useful.
I started Bass about 3 weeks ago and have nearly completed this book. Excellent teaching method. I dropped Paul a proof-of-purchase email and got instant access to the online videos/PDFs/Audio as promised.Today, I learnt “Bad Moon Falling” and loved every minute of it. Spent 40 minutes just restarting and accompanying the full-length no-bass play-along track to enjoy the “in a band” feeling. So much fun. (Yes, for copyright reasons the Credence original became a Country song, but boy does it work. My wife said he should release that version, after hearing me play it)Watching his fingers move on the videos has taught me a lot, too. He’s so relaxed when he plays. No sudden jumps all over the place. No crazy shredding that you can’t follow. I usually work up to his top speed demo until I crack the song, then use the audio track to have fun.You can print off the PDF Bass Tabs to play along, or just use the ones in the book, or those onscreen above the videos. Really does cover all the options.Never played Bass before, and I am not some guitarist making a switch either. I tried some online videos on YT, but needed something structured. Random riffs just weren’t much use, when you want to learn whole songs.Recommend this course for anyone who wants to learn Bass, and have fun. Hoping to get some band/jam time in my future. Will be working my way through the next book once I complete this one.

An excellent bass beginners book
I really like this book. If you contact the author he will give you access to the on-line version which contains bonus material including videos and mp3 downloads. The material starts off at the beginning and unlike some books doesn't suddenly ramp up in difficulty after a handful of pages. The author gives clear guidance on what you should be doing and when, common mistakes to avoid etc. I like how he gives "Pre Lesson Reviews" in some lessons, which cover what you should already be able to do before starting that particular lesson and also the "Action Steps". Action Steps spell out exactly what you should be doing for that lesson. I also like that he teaches some complete songs starting from very simple.I have bought several beginners bass guitar books and this is the best I have come across so far. I will most definitely be buying other books from this series as I progress further.

Not the method for me
Finished this first book, but won't be moving on the next. A lot of shade and very little light in this teaching method. I know it can be too far the other way, with easy hit tunes being emphasised over proper technique, but there has to be a happy balance. Some fun is necessary for motivation. The online video content was useful, but the constant emails promoting their bigger better more advanced courses when you are only weeks into Book one were not. Unsubscribed.
