Contemporary designs and a good place to begin
I am just getting into card making and find this book to be just what I need. The designs for cards are appealing and many have detailed instructions. I especially like the sections titled Card Maker's Toolbox and Techniques. These sections answered questions I had about how heavy the card stock should be...and illustrated the use of several card making tools like coptic markers, punches, and embossing techniques. Granted, the cards shown make use of a lot of commercial papers and embellishments but that doesn't make the book any less useable for me. I am inspired by the designs and can make my own embellishments with punches or other multi-media art materials. In the back of the book is a gallery with more cards pictured and a brief description of the materials used. There is also a small section showing some basic card designs that can be interpreted by the card maker as they see fit. This book, in combination with The Encyclopedia of Greeting Card Tools and Techniques by Susan Pickering Rothamel have given me plenty to work on!

Sometime more is less...
This book takes the format of an Introduction, Carmaker's Toolbox, Techniques, 5 chapters and pages on Card Layouts, Sample Sentiments and Resources. The chapters are titled1. Birthday's2. Season's Greetings3. Other Holidays4. Special Days5. Sweet SentimentsThe 1st 21 pages include some basic on card making tools and some techniques. Then the chapters begin. Each chapter has the same basic format: about 10 pages of individual cards, then 1 page on gifts and about 5 pages with card galleries. And each of the galleries has approximately 20+ cards. That is a minimum of 4 cards per page in the gallery. So the gallery sections is where about 100 of these "Fresh" card ideas come from the card galleries. My two main issues:* The "Supplies" list accompanying these cards is too general. E.g. Embossing Folder(Provocraft), Spellbinders, Die (Provocraft Cricut). But it does not specify the die/embossing folder. Or Gem(Zva Creative), Gemstones ( KaiserCrafts). No indication on sizing or color.* Relies very heavily on bought embellishments, which can be expensive if you are on a tight budget.Overall you would be hard pressed to recreate some of these cards, especially if you are a beginner. I think they tried to pack too much into this book. It would have been better if they lessened the number of cards to say 100 and tried to provide more specific details especially in the Supplies section.

Amazing!
I bought this book almost a year ago and I have had so many different uses for it. The handmade cards shown are absolutely beautiful! They break down most of the cards and give you step by step directions, while others just have a picture and name all of the materials ( and their name brands)used. I have never found a better card making book, and believe me... I have been searching! It even dares you to think outside of the box with different step by step card making techniques. I am fully satisfied!

The pictures are great!
The thing I love most about this book is that I can easily browse through it looking for different ideas for card fronts without having to follow a bunch of instructions on HOW to make them; more pictures than words. The ideas are so versatile and there are many, many possibilities too! If you are a beginner and need lots of instructions then this probably isn’t the book for you because it allows a lot of creative freedom and very few parameters, the sky is the limit (as long as your feet are grounded in basic knowledge)!

Great for Beginners
Illustrations are beautiful. Shows the materials needed and in the back it shows the layout without the pictures. Good book.

Like It!
I like this book as it has lots of fab ideas. I cant wait to try some of the style shown. Will make a good addition to the collection of your card making ideas. The only issue I have with kindle version is, the photo cannot be enlarged. Hence the four star!

Some interesting designs
I imagine that all crafters must have the odd 'innovation block'. This selection of esamples is very useful for those occasions when fresh ideas will just not come.

Birthday Gift
Bought this book for a very good friend of mine, she has been into card making for quite a while now. It looked like she enjoyed looking through it so I guess I did the right choice. It had lots of card ideas to choose from and some pages on card making techniques and supplies.
