Strong Is the New Pretty: A Celebration of Girls Being Themselves

Last weekend I took my 15 yr old daughter to a very upscale store to buy her the "nice" makeup and beauty products. To my dismay she didn't want any part of it. she fought me (argued) at everything I tried to show her. I gave up and we left. With my feelings hurt I went on and on fussing about her being ingrateful etc. I finally realized she was silently crying. I pulled over into a parking lot, got out and came to her side. I held her and apologized for my actions. After I asked her forgiveness and she felt better , we went to her favorite bookstore and as she shopped I saw this book. The title really hit home and I bought the book for her and me. We are spending time looking through it together and discussing it together. Thank you so much for this awesome book. Full of beautiful pics, stories and lessons of what girls should aspire to. It has certainly touched this mom.

I bought this for my granddaughter. A great book for young girls to get inspired and motivated towards hard challenges. Excellent!!!

This book is both beautiful and empowering. I bought the paperback and loved it so much I ordered the hardback for my grands.

I have bought many copies of this book for girls I know! I love to give it to them about 2nd grade.

This is such a high quality hardback book. I purchased it for my 16-year-old granddaughter and my 23-year-old granddaughter loved it as well. The photography is awesome and the quotes are inspirational. I must have forever tween or teen girl.

I think women and girls of all ages, and even fathers of daughters and husbands to wives, would enjoy and appreciate this book and the strength behind the messages from every single girl in this book. It is a good book to read in your nighttime reading to kids, or a book to pick up and find a page for inspiration when you're feeling like you need some encouragement. It is a good tool to teach kids about differences with real people photographed as they triumph and overcome their own personal obstacles that are totally relatable. This is a favorite and I can't wait for Boy Strong!

More photojournalist than written book. Cute insoring quotes. Some deep some simple. Reads like calendar each page with one quote and great pics. Photos alone awesome. Various ages and stages of girlhood. Ordered for my daughter 16 turning 17. Like memory lane of her childhood. Zany outdoorsy girl. Loves animals and vet athletic and adventuresome. I think she'll enjoy it!

This is a wonderful book that I plan to give to my 11 year old granddaughter at Christmas. It's beautifully done and I'm hoping it's a big hit.

Every parent with a girl child ought to have this book. Strongly recommend it !!

A beautiful photography book with brilliant messages from girls and young women. I adore this book- it's not just for young women. It reminded me of my younger self & how being strong, wearing roller skates and not letting other people's expectations of gender dictate your own originality is the most liberating thing in the world. These young women are amazing, intelligent, strong and beautiful. Thanks, Kate, for such a wonderful book.
