Amazon EssentialsMen's Classic-Fit 9" Chino Short

Spot-on fit and very good quality for the price
I've been searching for the last year or so for good shorts with either velcro or buttons on the back pockets. I like carrying my big wad of cash in my back pocket so I want to make sure the roll of 20s don't fall out when I sit down somewhere. I've been buying Docker brand shorts for many years, but they no longer make their dress shorts with secure back pockets. This being Arizona where most of the year it's luke warm to hot weather you really need a bunch of shorts to wear near year-round.So I thought I'd try these Amazon branded ones, and bought a size 32 with a 9" inseam in the cheapest color they had just so I could try them out (color teal for around $13). This way if I didn't like them even after breaking them in and washing them it wouldn't be a great financial loss.Packaging is easy and generic: inside a simple plastic bag and a small tag. No stickers, nothing else to have to remove. Just take out of the bag and remove the simple, generic, barcode tag.I noticed that the stitching was solid with sturdy thread, unlike a lot of other brands that cost twice as much and yet seem to scrimp on the thread. These feel very well made. The buttons are solidly stitched on as well and should last a long time without falling out. Zipper runs up and down very well also. When I first put them on I thought the inseam might not be the short 9" that I prefer because it felt like it was a tad too long and was rubbing the back of my thighs, which really annoys me, hence my desire to always buy shorts with the shortest inseam. Well, I almost returned them at this point, but thought, "what the heck, for $13 I'll wear them some more and give them a try". Well, after a couple of hours of wearing them and walking around all over the place the hem softened up enough that it no longer bugs me by rubbing against the back of my thighs. So that's definitely a plus for me!I started to give these a one star downgrade for the only nit I have against these shorts: the front pockets seem to be about 1/2" to 1" shorter than I prefer. I would prefer to have the pockets be just a little bit deeper, in which case I'd give them a solid five stars. But because of this, I'll give them 4.51 stars and just round up for the overall very good quality and really good price. They're not quite Docker's quality, but they come close. The only difference, besides the pockets being a little bit shallower, is that while the cloth material is pretty thick (compared to many other brands I've bought over the years), it's still a fraction of a mill less heavy cloth than Docker's.So buy them if you want to try out something different that's nearly as good as top end brands, but costs a third of the price. But if you carry a big wallet in your front pocket then maybe not. But my Samsung Galaxy S21 does fit well in my front pocket along with my smallish wallet. I just wouldn't recommend carrying two big items in the same front pocket.PS I'm going to buy a few more of these to replace my worn out Docker's

Comfortable and an excellent value
I bought these shorts based on the positive reviews and, more importantly, the low price point. I was happy to find they fit as expected and were very comfortable. Additionally, I have washed them dozens of times and they still look new -- no fraying, pilling, etc. A real value for the price and I will buy them again.

The value and comfort is outstanding, if they fit.
I have 5 pair of these in different colors. The fabric is lightweight, soft and the color is true to the pics. The front pockets are large enough for wallet and keys in one pocket and a cell phone in the other. The back pockets tend to bunch and show through if empty. The button and zipper are good quality and the stitching is well done. These ride mid-waist and have a larger seat for the waist size that can be a little baggy. The crotch rides a little low and needs a lift before sitting. The reason I only gave them 4 stars is the sizing is not consistent between colors and they run small. I comfortably wear 32" fitted Levi's jeans and wanted something a little looser for lounging. After reading other reviews I ordered size 34 in 3 colors. 2 pair fit a little tighter than I expected but comfortable The olive color was too tight to button. I returned them and got a size 36 which fit a little loose and more like what I originally wanted. If you find the right fit (Amazon does make it easy) these shorts are a great value, stylish and quite comfortable.

Great
Fit is good but haven't washed them yet. I say this because they're 100% cotton so I expect some shrinking. Other than that they look great and go perfect with some of my t-shirts and shoes.

Comfortable and affordable!
These are great shorts. Comfortable and roomy. I have been buying Dockers for decades and ordered a similar pair and ended up returning them and purchasing a second pair of the Amazons. The Dockers were snug and had only 5 belt loops. The Amazons just fit nicer. Cons... the pockets are not very deep. They shrink a bit in the wash but stretched right back after wearing them a bit. Another note... the second pair I ordered had only 6 belt loops instead of 7 on the first pair. However, the pockets were a bit deeper and the length was a bit longer. Even though both pairs were made in Bangladesh they are made to different specs but both are a good product for the price.

Fits well and comfortable 100% cotton, but not color fast
They fit well, and look great when they are brnd new. They have decent length without being too long. Nearly all manufactures add 1-1.5 inches to the listed waist size, so I consider these pants to be accurate in size. With a tape measure, I measure 32.0." I tried both the 30" and 31." Either size works. With a tucked-in shirt, 31" is best. With an untucked shirt, 30" fits snugly on the waist (no belt needed), but leaves plenty of room in the seat. No problem with shrinkage, but the dye is not colorfast. I bought Navy Blue and after one wash, it already looks a bit faded, but not worn-out.
