Physical discs are nice...
I didn't see the point of buying this game unless I could run the graphics settings on their maximums. And maybe it was on sale at some point in the past, but now Eidos wants double to buy this electronically. How stupid. OK, so now I have a new gaming rig with a 1080ti and ultra-widescreen monitor. With literally EVERY setting maxed out, this game is stupidly detailed and sometimes will melt your eyeballs. Sure the frame rate can be rough in some scenes, but it's worth it. My only gripe in the graphics department is that the real hair effect is actually not very good. It's basically just a bunch of single-pixel strands. The textured version in some cases looks more photo-realistic. I wish there was an in-between setting. Needs work...With regard to the specifics of this item, you pop the disc in and run the launcher from the disc first and then it will give you the code that you can copy and then activate using Steam. It appears to use some unique disc-based copy-protection method to obtain a unique key from the physical disc. Anyway, my process was: run the disc-based launcher, get the key, close. Launch Steam with the -install switch, enter the code and install the game from the two DVDs. Afterwards, it seemed to download another ~15GB or so of data off the 'net. So there must have been a big update? Anyway, you won't save a ton of bandwidth by getting the discs, I don't think. But I always like having physical copies. All of the DLC that you expect to get also activated on my Steam account. Strangely missing was Lara's bikini outfit...The reason for removing one star is simply that the game menus & maps are terrible. Sure, they all look nice, but popping in and out of inventory, weapons, upgrades, etc. is a lesson on how to make a GUI obnoxious. Click something to see what it is, and BAM, you've got it. Wait, what if I didn't want that? To bad. Why there is no confirmation pop-up is beyond me.The map display and item location navigation is also pretty horrid, with only a few zoom levels and again just a terrible GUI where it really makes it hard to keep track of objectives and goodies. Also, most other games have SOME indication in-game of items that are of note. In this game, you basically have to either check out EVERY object, or press Q to "scan" the area for goodies. Except coins don't show up in the snow, so those you need to discover something else first, then check the stupid map. Someone really dropped the ball on this compared to other games, especially if you're a person like me who wants to maximize their investment and explore EVERY nook and cranny in the game.

I am happy to have it
I received the game in glorious physical form from a UK seller, in New condition. I am happy to have it! My CD drive died though before I got it, so I haven't been able to install it. Divine irony or something. That said new CD will be arriving soon, and I'll be Tomb Raiding soon enough.
