I guess we dropped the ball in teaching our kids the dangers of socialism, so thanks for this book. We need more like it. While Sanders and his types believe that it is the answer, it never is. FDR provided safety nets, and countries that are used as examples of it working have huge taxes. They may be "happy" places, but they'll never be the United States with our innovation and potential for all. They enjoy the benefits of our innovation. No matter what we do, life is not far, and we can't govern our way into fairness. Equality we must push for, but fairness can't be forced. In America you are not promised wealth, but you can always obtain a good quality of life.Current American Socialist are not bad people. They believe the government can make it all better, but they will be used so that others who want power can obtain it. When we begin to trust our politicians too much, we will become servants to them, instead of them serving us (the people our nation). There will always be elite, and the elite will enjoy the best, while the others live by: From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.The bad reviews are those who either believe that we can govern our way into fairness, or are angry that they don't have what others do, and want the government to give it to them. What they don't know is that when the government provides them with bread and circuses they will be forced to do what the government wants (the gov at that time will be the elite = the Stalin and Chávez type leaders and cronies who come after the Bernies and the good willed). People will fear that the government will take away what is has given them. We should not fear our government. It must fear us.Capitalism is not perfect. It has been exploited, and we must stop and prevent this, and we have not done a good enough job controlling its abuse, but Capitalism has been the best system in all of human history. It is not perfect. Humans are not perfect, but Capitalism has helped more people than Socialism -- under any sugar coated name -- ever has.

My wife comes from a socialist country. Our kids will be reading this book when they get old enough. My wife says if there was 100 stars, she’d have me give 100 stars.

My students constantly ask me to explain socialism. Now, I have a realistic yet simple tool to use in the lesson. This will be very enlightening for them - a story shared by those who have lived it. Thank you!!

Excellent book, relates to current society. Wanted a book that speaks about FACTS and actual history, not something made up. Should be known to everyone young or old, because there are people who believe in the "great deception " and are trying to indoctrinate our young who are free .When everyone owns everything, then no one takes responsibility, then there's no one will work for free, then forced labor is required and how does that happen? They will pick people or groups who thinks different from socialism, divide and create a common enemy. This book clearly explains how once great socialism becomes communism every time.It's not an idea or a random theroy, it is a fact and a reality that has happened and will happen again.The lack of books like this and true history being taught is what allows tyranny.
