25 day supply...
I've taken a wide range of vitamins and supplements for many years - but only this year did I turn my attention to gut health, one area I felt I'd neglected. I'd say that after almost 12 months of taking this type of supplement, my gut health has certainly improved. I never get constipated and rarely become bloated. The problem with gut health supplements is that I've found they tend to be much more costly than any of the others I take. This UniBac Advanced is in easy to swallow capsule form and contains 17 strains of live bacteria with 3 billion CFU per capsule. The 50 capsules in the card pack are split into 2 sealed flip top plastic dispensers each just a touch bigger than a box of Tic Tacs. The Best Before date on the pack I received is 30/09/24 and they're suitable for vegetarians and vegans. In the pack, you're getting enough for just 25 days based on a recommended 2 capsules per day - so these may not be ones I'd repurchase. However, I shall continue taking gut health supplements because, of the various supplements I take, I can actually tell the difference if I stop taking them for a couple of weeks.

Improved my overall health
Essential for gut health and improving your overall health. Everything starts with your gut and not taking proper care of it can cause an abundance of issues. Been getting really ill lately which is so unlike me and can feel that my body is just so out of tune. I could tell very quickly that my stomach began to feel a lot better. It will obviously take time to really tell, but something has definitely improved sheet which is great. I also feel that it gave my immune system a bit of a boost too. Obviously if you’re fighting off a nasty come and you’re body is also busy repairing damage then getting better will simply take ages. Very happy with this

The capsule is not gastro-protective so not sure how many live bacteria will survive?
I received the advanced 17UniBac pack which contains 17 strains mainly Bifidobacterium or Lactobacillus strains and one Lactococcus strain. In total there are 50 capsules divided between two plastic containers. All the bacteria in the product are considered strains of healthy bacteria and there are 17 strains but the gut microbiome is very complex and consists of around 8000 strains of healthy bacteria (plus viruses and many other micro-organisms) - so 17 strains is not that much of an addition. In each Unibac capsule there are 3 billion CFU which seems a lot - but in the gut microbiome there it is estimated that there are around 100 trillion CFU - so this is a small addition. My main concern is what addition, if any, will really occur as the bacteria is not in a gastro-protective capsule and the advert suggests you can open the capsule and sprinkle it on food. However, the bacteria will need to survive the stomach acid and then the bile alkaline environments before entering the areas of the gut most suited to the microbiome. Only strains that are strongly acid/alkaline resistant will do so - and although some bacteria may survive many strains will not. So perhaps a small addition to the microbiome may occur but it is unlikely to be a significant proportion. I have even less understanding of how the swallowed UniBac healthy bacteria will get into the urinary microbiome - which does exist. I have looked up the recent research on magnesium stearate (an excipient in the capsule) and the Japanese health authorities have done the research and no adverse findings were found - so this is a safe addition. Nowhere on the product does it state that the manufacturing complies with Good Manufacturing Practices - which is of concern.Bottom line UniBac is a probiotic that may add some healthy bacteria to your microbiome - but this addition is likely to be limited given the complexity of the microbiome.

a little on the expensive side, but high quality
i think that these have been designed and priced at a middle, wannabe higher class.at £23.99 they to me are massively over priced for what they are. but, i guess that they could be used as something approaching a status symbol, "oh yes, i take unibac 17. and, they are £25 for 25 days supply, awf awf".i get that they are there to help, and each dose contains 6 million bacteria, and that its vegetarian and vegan. but, so is a lot nowadays. but they don't run around charging the earth for them.the capsules themselves are easy to swallow, with no aftertaste. not to sure that they were of any help, as the length of the course is too short for me. double it up and you are going to be able to see any long term effects be it positive or not.i really can't justify what is more than likely going to be the cost for a single persons weekly food shop on some over priced tablets. no matter how good they are.

They seem to be effective
Sometimes it seems like there's an "arms race" in probiotics. "Diversity" is as much a buzzword and part of the Zeitgeist here as everywhere else it seems. Whether the 17 different bacteria here makes these more effective than others may be doubtful, especially as quite a few of them are here in quite small quantities relatively speaking compared to others. The same brand also does a 9 strains variant, and curiously this 17 strains is not simply the same 9 strains in the same proportions with another 8 added on top, but a considerably different mix. These do seem to be having a positive effect on my digestive system so far though in the few days I have been taking them, trying not to be "TMI" about it, in terms of what comes out the other end.Two capsules per dose means 25 days' supply here, which makes them quite pricey as probiotics go. If you are like me however you will reserve the taking of such supplements for short periods of a week or two when you feel your digestive system needs a bit of improvement, rather than continuous usage.
