Lightweight barebones welding hood
I've been taking an intro welding course and plan to attend technical school for the same, so I wanted a welding hood of my own. I first ordered a Tigerhood because I liked the flip-up lens, not knowing there were other differences between that model and this one. I was pretty disappointed with the Tigerhood - it's made of floppy thermoplastic and pretty big. I've heard it's good for doing overhead welding for that reason. But I'm doing most of my welding in front of me at about sternum height, and the Tigerhood gets in the way doing that kind of stuff. The Tigerhood's headgear also came apart during class.I exchanged it for this one. After handling this Pipeliner I think the Tigerhood I got had a problem with the hinge. I switched out the Pipeliner hinge screws for some knurled metal ones either way, but the hinge screws on this one, while plastic, felt very, very solid.I'm a lot happier with the Pipeliner. It feels like how I was expecting it to feel. The construction is pretty good - I saw some people had problems with the edges of their hood being unfinished and jaggedy but everything looks OK on mine. The cream-colored paintjob is fine too - pretty poor surface finish but who cares, it's gonna get beat up anyway. The headgear had some rough spots on the band from the molding process - a quick xacto trim cleared it up. I'll probably end up chopping the bottom a little but as it is this will suit me just fine.

A tool every welder needs. Protect your eyes.
So tested this with 6011 rods 100 amps on 1/4 inch steel plate. Works the way a proper hood should. Been using the fancy Lincoln auto darkening hood for a while and don’t like auto hoods that well. Switching lenses is simple but getting the spring clip out is a pain. My main issue with this is when you lift the hood up it locks behind the ratchet adjuster and won’t let me swing my hood down, 2. The hood is too long so I’ll have to trim the bottom it digs in my throat, too much protection on the top too so it rests on the back of my neck so also needs trimming. It’s something to customize and play with so it gives me a project to do. I will buy again if need but I see this thing lasting a lifetime. Go with passive, or flip front. Protect your eyes. Also not a complaint but was surprised it was painted and constructed so poorly. I like that personally. Nothing bad like a pretty looking hood. Also the sticker says made in Mexico but inside the hood etched it says made in USA... sooo which is it? Online I’ve seen the Honeywell’s advertising as “made in USA” that’s why I bought it in the first place:”. Lastly, I’d recommend the ratchet headgear over the rubber band as it lasts longer but seen professional pipliners use the rubber band as to eliminate excess weight soo it’s your preference. Hope this helps. I’d recommend to anyone who loves to weld and loves to see lol.

Great, lightweight welding hood.
I wear this daily for 10 hours at work. It's one of the lightest hoods out there and is tough as nails.

Excellent value
I thought I was just a bad welder until I purchased this helmet and put an ArcOne in it. It's nice and lightweight and fits so nice I no longer get fumes creeping up the front or the glare from behind; It does a nice job of keeping both out. Now that I can see clearly, and not fighting the glare or fumes, I am pulling some nice looking puddles. Excellent value for the money.
