I’ve tried pretty much every type of marking device in my 40 year welding career and some still have a place in my toolbag. I took a shot at these after frustration with the silver streak pencils quality going out the window a few years back. And I’m not blown away, but I’m not disappointed either.The pens themselves are fairly rugged, as are the lead containers. The leads act just like silver streak in that they will absorb sweat or rain and get soft, but only the exposed part. What is in the pen is protected so I got into the habit of pushing the top button and pushing the exposed lead back into the pen when done with it.The mark will stay put for plasma cutting, but not so much for oxy. The lead size isn’t for precision work, the sharpener feature is a gimmick, so don’t expect it to. But it is a decent marker for steel and any other dark metal and you can’t B about the price.

The color is hard to see and breaks easily

With our shop the cutting stations are outdoors so often there’s wet or snow covered metal. These pens make solid marking on any surface and it stays there until you make the cut or grind it back off. Excellent quality will buy again (cuz my guys lose pens like someone else is paying for them! 😂

This was a disappointing product. I have a conventional wooden metal marking pencil and expected this to be an upgrade.1) The leads are too easily broken2) The holder is clearly made for standard pencil leads. If I use the sharpener it breaks the lead off in the sharpener and can’t be removed.3) The leads don’t write on steel very well.Not a useful product.

I use it on some stuff. Other things I have to use the soap. Hard to see in certain situations.

I'm a Millwright and use this pencil for marking metal when welding and cutting. Lines show up nicely. However I find sharpener not very easy to use. Refill breaks easily while sharpening. Still new to me , so hopefully I'll get the hang of it or l go back to the tradional weld pencil or chalk.

I’ve had the more expensive silver pencils, which work very well but our costly so I decided to give these a shot. They are slightly harder, so don’t mark as easily, but I would definitely buy them again.
