Ok Book
The book arrived in good condition and it is ok. It has some color photos and lots of drawings. It is more of a book for model makers. It has a very brief history of the aircraft and it also has lots of black and white photos along with some color photos.

Great book
If you love the C-5 Galaxy then you'll love this book. Many great photos and tons of data and stories about the early service years of this behemoth.

Incomplete history of the C-5
Great basic story of the Galaxy and its strategic cargo mission. I was disappointed to find nothing in the book about the C-5 Special Operations mission. Blacked out landings, airdrops, and 300 foot low level flying in an aircraft the size of the C-5 should have earned some mention in the book

Love The Book!
I first learned of this book several years ago from a friend who mentioned that my picture was in it. Sure enough, there I am on the far left side of the picture on page 27 helping with another ''bag drag'' as we were leaving on a mission. I can guess the year because of the patches on my flight suit. It looks like 1987 or 1988. The pictures are great. It looks like Keith Boughner donated a few pictures of the August 1983 Shemya Crash too. The commentary is OK, but quite a few ''facts'' are not true. On page 18, 3rd paragraph, the author tells of a Janurary 2002 mission I flew taking a US Navy twin hulled boat from California to Afghanistan---thats not true. That particular mission was in support of a joint operation to retrieve a crashed B1B bomber out of the Indian Ocean as part of the crash investigation--Afghanistan is a landlocked nation with no oceans, seas or large lakes. The destination was not Afghanistan, it was Diego Garcia. Other factual mistakes are found in the commentary of the pictures but they are really minor---i hate to nitpick a great book that I treasure. Grab this book before it goes out of publication!

Lockheed C-5 Galaxy
The image of the book on Amazon's website shows that there are eight extra photos inside. The version I have does not, it has color photos, and has 78 pages. This makes it even better than the normal In Action book (which has 48 pages)First flown ib 1968, only 131 of these were built, about 70 of which are still in service. This book shows with line drawings, b&w photos, color photos (about 1/3 of the book), great captions and 2 pages of color plates to show the various paint schemes used by the USAF. The palne's interior and exterior are shown to great effect from every angle. There are even a couple of jokes in the book about the C-5 during some of the rough spots it had in its development.Transporting aircraft ("ash and trash") planes/crew do not get the credit they deserve, but these birds make it possible for the combat folks to make it happen. This is a great place to begin to learn about support missions and the C-5. Aviation fans, modelers and anyone who has flown or worked in a C-5 will appreciate this book. Good addition to the collection.
