Well worth reading! Should be in every classroom.
This book is very well written. I am a true believer that if we Don't learn from history, history will repeat itself. I first heard of this book months ago on one of the morning shows. I placed my order on Kindle that very day. Lily Ebert is a very strong woman who lived through a horrible time and instead of letting all she experienced ruin her life she kept her faith and became even stronger. The book tells of two promises she made. Before he father died he asked Lily to take care of her mother and sisters. When her family first arrived at the concentration camp her family was split up. Her mother, younger sister and brother apparently were killed. Lily and her two younger sisters were kept alive so as to work for the Germans. She always thought first of them and kept them together and as safe as they could be living as they were. Her second promise was to herself . She promised if she survived she would let the world know what she experienced in the hope it would not happen again. For many years she kept it all inside her but as she aged she knew she had to talk about the evil she had lived through. Her Great Grandson when the Divide 19 pandemic threatened to sideline Lily he helped her to continue to get her story out to even more people. This is a wonderfully heart warming story!

Uplifting Spirit
After reading the book about Masha the cat, still wiping the tears streaking down my face, I hesitated to start reading Lily's Promise. How could I read something about the Holocaust and not feel so depressed and helpless? I was wrong. Yes, the subject matter was as sad and maddening as you can imagine, but the spirit of Lily, her sisters, and family brightened and encouraged my own spirit.Look, I know it was one of the hardest things for a person to go through. We can only hope no one has to deal with that kind of thing again ever in history. But when you think of our inconveniences that strike us daily, cost of living, etc., and remembering to live with it all with as much grace as we can muster for those around us, thus even lifting our lives to staying alive and doing our best with what we've been given. And to rise even higher for those around us. Saving more than life, saving love. That is the wealth in this book.Lily, great-grandmother, and Dov, her great-grandson, bring their perspectives to current thoughts about the Holocaust, and memories that most have tried to forget and hide bring the light. It is a beautiful book. While Lily does some of her own reading, Anna Cordell (narrator) takes over the heavy vocal challenges. Dov reads his parts as he is used to podcasting with his great-grandmother.I highly recommend this read, especially as an audiobook. I was lucky to find it on Libby.

Wow…. Just wow. This is a must read for everyone.
I grew up in Germany as the child of American soldiers. I’ve visited Dachau and Auschwitz and believed nothing could be as moving and memorable as visiting those horrible places. Then I read ‘Lily’s Promise’.I’ve read many other first hand accounts over the years. Every story that can be told is worth hearing and remembering. Lily’s Promise is amazing for so many reasons. She covers not only her childhood and the atrocities of her story but she also covers what happened afterwards in great detail. How they were given new identities, learned of family, slept and learned to eat again in the the weeks after…. Details missing from many Holocaust writings. It’s also special because I’ve watched Lily and her great grandson on TikTok for a year before the book was released. So as I read her words I can actually hear her voice and accent in my head. That brings her story to life in ways I’ve never experienced.Thank you Lily for sharing your families story with us and for bringing to life the stories of many of the people who shared moments of life with you. The girls in Auschwitz with you and later in Switzerland, the soldiers who helped you and many others. The world is a better place because you are in it. I am a better person because you’ve shared your story. My children will be better and their children after them - because you existed, survived and shared your story. Thank you!

Excellent read about a shameful time in history.
This story is heartwarming and well thought out. I can see how the Nazi mindset via the co vid scare, etc. is taking over the world again. I pray every day that we can avoid this kind of massive dehumanizing of our fellow human beings. I'm so glad Lily shared her story with all mankind. ~ The Mrs.

Needs to be in English Class.
This is a book that should be required to read in school. Lily was in the camp for a few months, but she and her family endured so much.A story of survival and just following your instincts, Lily was so brave!!

Livro lindo
A entrega foi rápida e o cuidado com o livro tem que ser extremo porque chegou ainda com pedacinhos da cola da capa e qualquer força pro outro lado já deixa marcado a página que você estava. Fora isso, o livro é ótimo em todos os sentidos!

heartbreaking but truthful bio
I finally finish reading it today, it a hard read but necessary to make sure no one forget about what happen and how cruel some people can be.For people who read an Holocaust Survivor story for the first time, i hope it will give you the will to read other story like hers, they did go through almost the same thing but they don't remember it the same way and most of all, they don't describe it the same way.For those who already read other biography like hers (because yes, it's a biography and NOT a fiction) you still gonna learn new thing that you never read or heard before.I recommend this book to every one who want to learn more about what happen to those few who did survive, if you have a twitter account, be sure to leave a comment to her Great GrandSon Dov Forman, it's the best way for Lily to hear from those who did read her books.

A memoir of a Holocaust survivor
Lily's Promise, How I Survived Auschwitz and Found the Strength to Live is Holocaust survivor Lily Ebert's inspiring memoir. The latter not only survived the Holocaust but, after the deaths of her mother, brother, and sister in Auschwitz-Birkenau, like a brave warrior, rebuilt her life and shared her tale with all of humanity with the message of love, not hate.In fact, the book's title, Lily's Promise, refers to a promise Lily made to herself on Yom Kippur in 1944: if she survived the Nazis' brutality, she would not only tell the world her story. But she would also ensure that whatever happened to them wouldn't happen to anyone again.I highly recommend this book to all readers. The language is easy to read. It also contains several photographs of Lily and her family. I also suggest readers read this book on the Holocaust, The Tattooist of Auschwitz.
