How to be the Greatest Improviser on Earth

Easy to read and understand, and very funny!
I'm a fan of Will Hines and UCB. This book is a great how-to and keeps things light at the same time. It's full of personal stories, great examples, improv warm-ups and so much more. If you're into improv and performing, this is a great resource.

I'm better for this
This book just helps me with the mentality I should take and more rules I should follow when you want to do improv and just it's a fun read as well

Should be required reading alongside the UCB Manual
I'd been following author Will Hines for many months on YouTube, Improv4Humans, etc., and finally got to see him live while taking an improv 101 class at Upright Citizens Brigade where he actively performs. Later I learned he wrote this book, and I feel like it needs to be required reading alongside the class textbook "UCB Manual".Whereas the UCB manual addresses the "how-to" of improv, what I liked most about Will's book is how it addresses common challenges happening *internally*. That is to say: all the anxiety and fears that are common for newbies like me. He offers encouragement and advice for those things, and breaks down complex concepts into simple thoughts. For example, when talking about "Top of Intelligence" (a confusing concept to me), "Top of intelligence means not making your characters dumber than they should be." Brilliant! And all that said, I do not think you need to have read the UCB manual in order to enjoy it... it works on its own.I'm hoping to do a book group, since the end of each chapter contains practice exercises to help put the concepts into action. Can't wait to try it out!

Equally inspiring and instructional
...with plenty of real improv transcriptions. Fun and easy to read. Would be a great source to come back to for for new ideas and reinforcement.

A nice perspective
This is a nice read! Will gives his unique perspective on improv with helpful suggestions, stories, and exercises. I’d recommend this if you’ve been improving for a while.

Pretty good, some is just editorial
The book has good tips, but also the author gives his own opinions of what you should or shouldn’t do, which I don’t think generalize to different regions. Overall a great book for beginners!!!

Be present
I really dug the book, will! I hit a spot with a Quantum Leap reference and I've never heard a more perfect analogy than that for being put in an unknown situation.I'm in a Toastmasters club out here and the part that I've always enjoyed is the "Table Topics" or 1-2 minute impromptu speaking based on a random question. The times I do well with that are the times I black out and just let what happens happen.Reading the book has motivated me more to see what's out here in Hawaii and try some stuff out. Again, solid work and an excellent read!

best first improv book
i'm halfway through improv 1 and have a few books on the subject. this one is my favorite right now, because while the class, and other books, are teaching the mechanics of improv, this book is like Will Hines is in my head... knows exactly why and how i'm freaking out... and helps me navigate the inner process so that i can get more out of the class. this book is exciting. i'm glad he wrote it.

Good
It’s a book, about improv. But not an intro to improv, like if you have spent heaps on classes but only got half way there than this will help. Probs a bit cheaper too
