Keeps paws away from face
Our almost 15 year old shar pei/chow mix had to have a large growth removed from her face. The vet sent her home with the standard "cone of shame"- Elizabethan collar.Unfortunately, since she has a thick neck and a relatively short muzzle it turned out to be more of a satellite dish than a cone. Every time she moved it seemed the cone was hitting something (including the ground if she lowered her head-she's not that tall) no matter how much we cleared the path. Since she is always freaked out by vets and any change to her environment she was completely traumatized and spent most of the next 24 hrs standing in one spot and panting heavily. We took the cone off when we could be right next to her but that just isn't possible 24/7.I talked to the vet after that first sleepless night and asked if there was a cone designed for bulldog types- thick neck/short muzzle. The vet tech said no but I knew there had to be something. Thank heavens for Amazon and the same day delivery option! I found this Kong inflatable and ordered immediately. A measuring tape came up with an 18" tight neck measurement so I ordered the extra large. A large probably would have worked though. After inflating, we put her regular ID collar through the loops. And then it was a simple matter of putting it around her neck, clicking the collar closed and closing the Velcro. Because it is a little too large, there was a lot of excess Velcro but we just cut off the excess. Soooo much better! She can move around much more easily, see well (her peripheral vision has never been that good any way) and is much more comfortable. Most important she can't paw her face or rub her face on a rug.Important points on the down side: We still have to keep her on a leash in the yard because what this doesn't do is prevent her from sticking her face into something (like the big sage bushes that she loves). And as she regains her strength we are only going to be able to use this when we are awake and in the same room with her. All of my dogs wear a fairly loose ID collar but outside on walks, etc it is either a gentle leader or partial choke chain so they can't slip out of the collar. Any regular collar that is too tight to slip out of is too tight period. And a determined dog is going to be able to eventually work this off. So this really should be viewed as an "eyes on" alternative to a hard collar. I've already ordered a hard collar from Amazon that appears to be shorter and is certainly more "customizable'.So while this isn't a perfect long term solution, we both actually got a decent night's sleep :)Update 3-18-15 Two weeks later, stitches out, healed perfectly. (It was benign, yea!) We ended up using this exclusively. Fortunately, she tolerated it very well- actually seemed to enjoy having the built in pillow. One note about size. The diameter of this extra large, closed all the way, is 8β. That makes the interior circumference over 25β- much too large for an 18β neck. This left a gap between the collar and the tube. Twice she caught her paw in the gap when trying to rise. I solved this by filling a thin nylon, knee high sock with soft pillow stuffing. After the collar was on I slipped it into the gap between the collar and tube with the ends in the loops. Worked perfectly.

Keeps my dog from licking his crotch raw during allergy season
Jax is a super-chewer and the foam rings remind him of a stuffed chew toy. The inflatable ring for some reason isn't something that he'll chew on. So this works perfect to keep him from irritating his grundle patch during allergy season when he wants to lick his crotch raw. He's not a fan of the thing - but trust me when I say that we are a fan of him not being able to lick himself when he's wearing it.

Not my favorite item from Kong
This collar served well for my French Bulldog after surgery in the size and keeping her from licking her surgical sites, while allowing her to eat and drink. The stem would not stay in place and therefore was an irritant during the healing process. I would have sent it back, but needed it. I flipped the collar the other way so the stem was not touching her skin, but continued to be a frustration as it would catch on her harness.

Worked Well Until...
Inflating the collar was fine however, you have to monitor and add air when needed. This can be a hassle since it has to be removed to inflate.I used this on a 7-month-old puppy and it fit well but he was able to chew the product and made holes in it. I used Gorrilla Duct Tape to seal the holes and that worked fine. I did purchase another product from a different vendor to have on hand in the event this product was no longer usable.

A night and day difference!
This inflatable e-collar and others sold under brand names such as Procone & 21st Century are basically clones in design. The main difference I've seen is that Procone and 21st Century have a canvas like material covering the inner bladder while Kong uses a softer fleece-like material. My cat had a wound on her ear caused by her scratching at it due to allergies. The vet. supplied us with a hard plastic cone which had to be placed over her head; As careful as I was this routine would always force the ear back and effect the wound. She would just sit or lay in one spot most of the day, couldn't eat or drink with it on, couldn't see as well and would walk like a crocodile with her head down, and she didn't seem to like using the litter box as much when it was on due to the lack of vision, no good. It did, however, keep her from scratching it, the one plus. The constant removal for feeding and cleaning of the ear forced me to find the soft e-collar. These seemed more comfortable but still had the basic aforementioned short-comings and if she shook her head would still contact the ear. Again, however, they kept her from scratching it. I happened to be in Petco and Petsmart looking around when I saw these inflatable e-collars (a Procone branded one) and bought it for $29.99. My cat could eat and drink on her own without it having to be removed like the others, she was walking around and playing normally again, there was no rubbing of the ear from the collar with this on and she seemed to be less inclined to try and itch because of it, she could see a lot better, I could tend to the ear, if needed, with it on, and she was going to the litter box on her own more often with it on etc... She wasn't able to reach her ear if she happened to try and scratch at it with her hind or front leg also. The last thing I did should of been the first thing I did I checked them out on Amazon. This Kong collar was half the price of the one I bought in store and the material was like a pillow for her. I bought 2 of these and returned the other to Petco. I have to remind myself to always check online at Amazon first when buying anything because the prices are almost always better. I would note that this collar worked out best for my situation and that not all wounds and pets are the same. A determined pet with a wound in a different area should be closely watched because others have stated that their pets could reach an area trying to be obstructed with this on. Trial and error should be expected even when people give glowing or negative reviews.

Does What it Needs to - Too Easy to Pop
Initially, my wife and I bought this product to help our puppy manage a condition called megaoesophagus. This condition is lifelong and it means she can't really eat her food properly, without the worry of being sick shortly afterwards. One way to help this problem is to have a soft, but tight cone around the neck of the dog to keep the oesophagus tight whilst eating. This product managed to do exactly that and she seemed to enjoy wearing it after the first few days, which was great. She never really tried to take it off and even ended up using it as a makeshift pillow whenever she went to sleep, as she needed to wear it for most of the day. In terms of effectiveness, I would definitely say that I'm happy with the product, but the comfort, ease of use, and effectiveness wasn't the issue with the product; it was the build. In around a span of about 3-4 months, my wife and I found ourselves buying 3 of these, due to the unfortunate fact that they just kept popping. After about a month, it would be discovered that there was a tiny, pin-prick sized hole in the inflatable tubing that for the life of me, I just could not locate when trying to fix it. I never could seem to find the reason that the tubes kept receiving this problem. After all, there were no thorns or sharp-objects in the garden or around the house that would cause such tiny damage. Plus, we never actually saw her scratching it, so it didn't appear to be the dog herself doing the damage either.Unfortunately, what it meant was every single time this hole appeared, we had to constantly keeping re-blowing it up for a couple of hours, until finally biting the bullet and purchasing another one. Don't get me wrong, the product itself is great and will do the job; providing that you're only using it on a temporary basis, hence the reason I ended up giving this product 4 stars instead of 3.I honestly think, if you only need to use the thing for about a week while your dog gets over a temporary condition, it should do the job just fine. On the flipside, however, if you're like me and needed to use the thing on a regular basis, it's not going to hold up for any longer than a month or 2 of continuous use.

Don't buy if your dog is a chewer!
I opted for this product as my dog (11 month old labrador) bit through 3 plastic cones after a previous op and this one promised to be bite resistant. Spoiler alert - it isn't! It was easy to inflate although a bit of a faff to get it in the zip up cushion part. The dog bit through it after one night and although we were able to do a patch job, it kept deflating after that so we had to revert to the old fashioned cone for night times. I'm still giving it 3 stars as it worked okay for the dog to wear during the day although he still managed to pull out a couple of stitches luckily without any repercussions. Overall, I was drawn to this as find other Kong products to be great but this didn't live up to expectations and was an expensive experiment!

Do not use on agile border collies after spaying
Bought this for my collie when she was spayed a few weeks ago. If you have an agile bendy collie DON'T BUY, she could still bend herself so that she could reach the incision site whilst wearing it. She also managed to slide it off her head using both paws (collar came too) even though as tight as safely possible. If your dog is not houdini in disguise (she also wiggles her way out of harnesses etc) then this would be a very comfy alternative to the cone of shame that she then had but escaped from that too then destroyed it π ended up with a surgical vest which she actually liked and did not try to escape from!

Sizing information wrong
I wanted to replace the plastic e cone type collar on my cat following his surgery. It wouldn't allow him to eat, he couldn't get into any of his 'safe' places and he was bumping into everything. This collar seemed ideal and I measured the circumference of the e cone around his neck to choose what size to order of the Kong collar. It was 10.5 inches, so I ordered the Medium size. It arrived very quickly (in about 4 days) but was really enormous. On the packaging in addition to the inch/cm measurements there are also references to which size is suitable to what breed, which is not listed on the website or product description. If this info had been listed I would have ordered the correct size, which would have been XSmall. I called VetUK and they were lovely to speak to and told me to send the item back, but of course the postage was Β£2.50. Add that to the Β£3.95 S&H to send it to me, and I'm out Β£6.45 in total. So, the delivery was good, customer service was fine, and I think the product would have been perfect if they had provided more information. To anyone considering buying this item check the following sizes first:XSmall- 6" (15cm). Suitable for Toy Breeds, CatsSmall- 6-10". (15-25cm). Jack Russell, SheltieMed- 10-13". (25-33cm). Border Collie, SpanielLarge- 13-18". (33-46cm). Lab, Golden RetrieverXLarge- 18+". (46+cm). Rottweiler, Mastiff, Great Dane

Useless for purpose purchased
Useless for stopping licking a wound on GSP- go back to the trusty lampshade! But dog loved it for propping head on for a doze rather like we use inflatable collar for a nap during air travel. Would possibly be more successful on smaller dog.
