Authentic. “Spot On” is a must read!
I’ve been in the health and wellness industry for well over a decade now and I came across this book from actually meeting the man himself in a course we were in together. Having the pleasure of meeting him personally, the book is “Spot On” with his personality and the the love for helping others radiates with every turning page. He has a beautiful life story and is an awesome husband, father, and human being. He sheds light in a lot of topics most will not even touch. His honesty, intellect, and deep wealth of knowledge shine brightly in this book and there are several times where I laughed out loud. It challenges the status quo and yields great results. Personally, it has helped me feel better than I ever have and make sense of things I quite didn’t understand before. Plus, chocolate is one of his first resources! This book is good for the mind, good for the body, and good for the soul. He’s become a good friend of mine over the years and I will continue to support him in his future endeavors.

Buy one and then buy another one to share with someone you love..
A friend recommended "Holistic Strength Training For Triathlon" to me a few years ago-- and I loved it. It was such a well written resource for anyone who wants to live well, whether they are a triathlete, or not. After reading it, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Andrew lived in Atlanta. I had the pleasure of meeting him last year, and working with him for my nutrition/lifestyle/strength training/triathlon. If you live in Atlanta, I would highly recommend collaborating with him. It will change your thoughts and change how you breath -- and that's the first step to changing your life. :)When this book finally came to print I bought one for me and one for my mom. Since then, mom has had to purchase a few extra copies to share with her massage and yoga clients up in Massachusetts. This book reads like a conversation with Andrew. It's full of insights and research that will help dispel so many of the common nutrition myths and mis-information that float around in the general public. It isn't a diet book or the "next big trend". It is simply the most SPOT ON resource you can have to help you navigate nutrition in this day & age.

What I love about Andrew is that he writes just like he's ...
Full disclosure, I'm a fellow healthcare professional in that I'm a certified athletic trainer. What I love about Andrew is that he writes just like he's one of us. He doesn't waste your time, and cuts right to the chase and gives you all the information you need to be successful. From a personal perspective, a lot of this is common sense with the level of training I've had over the years but to be successful, one must be 'coachable' and in order for me to do that, I have to trust the source. I've never met this man, but I thought his holistic triathlon book was 'spot on' (just had to do that) and I am pretty much in lock step with his view on how to train the body. My weakness is diet, and sometimes you need some no frills guidance and for me, this book has been just that. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this to any walk of life from high end professional to someone who's trying to get their weight under control. Can't wait for his next book!

Excellent Book
Johnston clearly did his research for this book. It's a heavy read since he gives the details (which I appreciated) of why he reached his conclusions rather than simply declaring information as a fact without explaining why. At the same time, he writes in a conversational style that allows the reader to follow the tremendous amount of data easily enough. I've begun implementing most of his suggestions and can already feel a difference in my joints (due to less inflammation).I've only been at it a couple of weeks and like to think the longer-term benefit will be even better than if I had continued eating the way I was with 1) a brain that remains sharp much longer and 2) a body that remains cancer-free too. This book is not intended for athletes only. Anyone who eats will benefit from the knowledge Johnston shares with us.

Good book to challenge your status quo
This is the second book I've read from this author. I think he has a fair amount of knowledge and experience on the subject. While I have a thorough background in many aspects of training and nutrition he makes good arguments that I don't necessarily agree with... And that is all the more reason to read the book. I enjoy reading topics that challenge my status quo. How much does his writing challenge my previous beliefs? About 5-10%. Not much but that insight may benefit you or me or one of my patients that I can't figure out. So with that, I do recommend the book. And I plan on reading it again twice myself. I do, however, wish the book flowed a little better. Sometimes I am not sure that a topic ended. Other times the chapter gave a "spot on" summary.

The most digestible book I've read on nutrition.
This is a fantastic book that kept me engauged in a topic I really don't like reading about. Its a complex subject that Andrew breaks down into actionable steps to improve your health. I've benefited greatly from what he presented when I worked the information into my diet. The quips kept me reading even though I probley should have went to bed a couple nights. Great book and I'm anxiously awaiting another volume in the series.

Excellent food & nutrition guide!
This is a great breakdown of what foods to / not to eat. Andrew's humor made this is a quick & fun read, and my wife and I have a copy of his included food guide reference hanging in the kitchen now. Some parts are a bit technical for 'layman' understanding, but the information helps you understand the background on why certain foods are good and others are to be avoided, and the food reference guide would be worth the money by itself. Highly recommended!!

IF YOU DON'T WANT TO LEARN AND LAUGH AT THE SAME TIME... DO NOT BUY.
Only read this book if you want to be entertained and learn valuable things that will provide you with enhanced health and vitality. Don't buy it if you don't want those things because that's all you'll get, and then you'll be disappointed.

Great read
I really live by this book and I’m now that preachy friend that annoys you with nutritional facts.

Nutritional must have!
I read this book after reading some rave reviews about it on the Internet. These were all given by respected health professionals so I took the plunge and bought a copy too. Some of the information will smack your current understanding in the face but then it will back it all up with scientific reviews and real arguments why this is so.It has helped me tremendously in my idea towards diet and how to for instance, add butter to broccoli to nullify the negative effects, also by cooking it and not eating it raw (but raw is healthy right..?.. Well, it depends). I'll let you read the book to find out the details. If you care for you health and diet this book must be upon your book shelf. Worth a couple of reads too as there's a lot of information. Andrew writes in a very easy to understand and informal manner which helps you get through this educational nutrition piece. Give it a read, you won't be disappointed.

Andrew does not avoid what can be complicated subject matter but manages to do so with excellent practical examples and generous
As a Physical Education teacher and qualified Personal Trainer it can sometimes be quite daunting to sift through the myriad of 'diet' and nutritional information that is in the marketplace. When I discovered that Andrew Johnston had written a book on the subject (I had heard of Andrew's incredible life story whilst studying at The European CHEK Institute) I had to get a copy. Well, please let me assure you the information it contains is outstanding. Andrew does not avoid what can be complicated subject matter but manages to do so with excellent practical examples and generous doses of humour. I thoroughly recommend this book and will also be purchasing Andrew's other publications.

An education in nutrition from an athlete
This book covers so much more than just nutrition, including a lot of how the body works. It takes a scientific approach which I found helpful as I could then feel I understood the basis for what was covered, not just what to do without the why. Be prepared to read it more than once, it will become your reference book, especially if you are a runner, cyclist, swimmer, or triathlete.
