The plot got a bit too far-fetched, but followed the author's good writing style.

All of the Penny stories have been great
As always I love the way the author weaves the lines of the story together.

Another fun, entertaining entry in the superb cozy series set ...
Another fun, entertaining entry in the superb cozy series set in rural north Wales. An accomplished, talented writer, Ms. Duncan has once again cleverly constructed a delightful puzzle drawing on the pleasures of rural life and the stiff competition that erupts at the annual agricultural show---stiff in more ways than one when a body is discovered under the baked goods table.Surely winning a prize is not worth the death of the local president of the Women's Guild. Who would do such a thing in this tight-knit community, and why? Local spa owner, artist, and amateur sleuth Penny Brannigan is compelled to investigate, and is certain a village newcomer is innocent----a woman with a troubled past. There is a lot of local color here, and vivid descriptions of the animals, people, sights, and smells of the beloved annual event, along with the observations and buried secrets that gradually emerge from a cast of recurring and beloved characters. The pace and flow of the story is perfect, gently leading the reader toward one revelation after another until the unexpected solution is revealed. If a well-constructed British village cozy is your cup of tea, do not miss this terrific new entry in a wonderful, award-winning series. You will not be disappointed. Very highly recommended.

Busybody character!
I chose to read some of the Penny Branigan books to learn a little about Northern Wales. The 1st book in the series was interesting, but in subsequent books the main character became more of a nosy busybody. Her interference in police procedural is unrealistic. Penny becomes increasingly annoying in each book. I won't read another.
