200 Braids to Twist, Knot, Loop, or Weave

Love it 2 much! Had trouble deciding what to do first!
I checked this out at the library as I generally do with all my craftsy type books and I really liked it...enough to order my own copy! The one at the library was spiral bound and pages kept slipping out. The book I got here in Amazon was a standard paperback which I definitely prefer! The directions are great and it is a lot of fun to create some of my own cords for necklaces and such! I really like the step-by-step diagrams and how each item will reference you to the technique page you need. It covered not just simple braids but Kumihimo, weaving and the use of beads in many different aspects of the cords! Hardest part for me was that the given amount is only for 12 inches so I have to stop and do the math to ensure I make enough of a cord...but that's not such a huge thing really :)

Lots of variations to try--well written
I am a medieval reenactor who does a lot of fiber craft. I have a friend who had this book and just had to have it for myself. There are a lot of different techniques in this book, from braiding to finger looping, to working with a small loom, all with good pictures of the work in progress and examples of the finished work. Many different patterns and variations are pictured as well. This book is great for beginners as well as for those people who are looking for something different to do. Instructions are well written and easy to understand, well worth the money.

Great book, especially for beaders!
I bought this book because I wanted to start making my own cores for embellishing with beads and decorative ends and cords to showcase focal beads from the multitude of gorgeous hand-dyed embroidery floss out there. This book provided thousands of design possibilities and is an instant favorite in my collection. Each braid is very clearly illustrated, and includes several variations (all shown in photos) for each braid based on strand thickness or type of cord. Exact instructions for each variation is also provided--I have never seen a book so detailed. For someone like me who gets frustrated seeing something I like in the gallery or variations section of a book but then can't reproduce it, this is a great idea.I was also pleased that the title "200 Braids" was true. Usually when books say they include X number of something, what is often included are a number of pretty close variations and quite a few uninspired items just to fill the quota given in the title. Not the case here. 200 unique braids give you a lot to choose from.

Pleasantly surprised and delighted
When this book arrived, I glanced at it and tossed it aside, thinking it was no more than a collection of pretty pictures. I didn't like the spiral binding or the size. However, when I had time to take a closer look, I don't know when I've been more pleasantly surprised. The instructions are simple but complete--all you need to create the braid. A small, easy-to-find picture in the corner shows you a section of the completed project. The instructions are clear and concise. And the spiral binding allows you to open the book to the page of instructions for each project without wrestling with the book in the process. It also travels well. I've already located and completed one braid for a bag I had made. That one, and presumably many others, can be transported to the Kumihimo disk, but if you don't use one, the work is designed to be held in the hand. I love the book and recommend it highly.

Beautiful, Great Book
If you are new in twisting, knotting, looping or weaving like me, this is a "must have" book for you. This book has very clear pictures, easy to follow instructions and inspirational designs. She also shows alternatives tools to use during your braiding work in case you don`t have access or you are unable to find the proper ones. The pictures are so clear that, for instances, you don`t need to read the explanation of how to make the braid. I love it...The tecniques shown are: twisting, knotting, interlooping, weaving, braiding, ply-split darning, working with beads, beginnings and ends, using narrows wares. The second section you will find the braid & trim collection with beautiful and inspirational work. Thanks to Jacqui Carey for sharing her knowledge with us.

Great braiding design book.
This is a great book. I macrame, do Kumihimo and bead crochet and this book has great instructions and so many great designs.

Great book by a great author
I purchased a second copy of this book to donate to a charity auction. I own dozens of kumihimo books and this is still one of the most important and useful of them. Carey is a true expert, with research, teaching and experience behind her long predating the current fad for kumihimo.

I don't think you will get a better braiding book.
Only received this book yesterday. Without having to read much, I can clearly see how to complete a design, how many strands to use and how to adapt the design. I love the fact that you don't need lots of expensive tools, in fact the book gives you options to use some tools or just to use your hands. There is a catalogue style view of all the design, my only complaint is that this should be at the back of the book so it is easier to find. There is a photo or drawing to go with every paragraph, there is a photo of every design. Every design is rated to tell you how easy it is to make. 200 designs is a lot, the book is pack full. I can't imagine every needing another braiding book or ever getting bored with this book and I can't wait to get started. I will be testing out some of these designs with jewellery wire to set pendants in and I am looking forward to it.

Lovely pictures, tiny print
I made a mistake with this book, thinking it would include kumihimo, which it doesn't. So be careful because it comes up in the kumihimo search. It contains lots of other lovely braids with beautiful photos. I marked it down because the typeface is really tiny, especially for the instructions, and I felt it made the book very difficult to use, even with reading glasses. If you don't struggle with a tiny typeface it would probably be a very good introduction to braiding.

Good book
This is a good book. Very well structured with lots of 1:1 pictures of the final result braid. It begins by showing you lots of technics but, in my opinion, if you don't already know them it's kind of hard to learn through here.I find the step by step explanation a bit confusing.I loved the second part of the book with the braid pictures and a reference of the technic used to do it.

More braids than you can use in a lifetime
A useful book giving methods of working braids other than by Kumihomo (the authors speciality). Effects of different yarn/thread on the braid is also illustrated. This is a small book, very tightly bound and would have benefitted from a spiral binding so you can open it out flat to the page you require, as it is I can see the spine receiving damage as you try to keep it flat while working. That said I think the book is worth the small price.
