Better than some other brands I've tried
I bought GenTeal upon recommendation from my Dr for a issue I've developed of night time dry eye, as other brands I've tried would leave a unpleasant crustiness along my lid surfaces or not remain effective for the duration of the night. However for my eyes I've found that I can't use this just before bed, I have to be sure to put them in a hour or so before I retire for the evening. I'm not entirely sure why, as this brand and formula addresses the issue with my eyes well enough when I follow that routine, but if I put it just before bed as I lay there my eyes will sting after a few minutes when covered by my eyelids. A little saline afterwards aggravated the sting for several seconds before settling down, so I learned to use it a little earlier which took care of the issue. I no longer wake up in the middle of the night with dry itchy pain in my eye and come morning my eyes are happy to wear my contacts again. Its not as thick as some other eye gels I've tried, so if you're looking for a really thick one you might give this a pass, however I can say that barring my rather minor issue with it, its very long lasting. I typically wear contacts and this gel doesn't play nice with them but every now and then I wear my glasses and during those occasions I would use this gel in the morning and it would pretty much last all day till late evening before I felt any discomfort. Having said that, if you're suffering from dry eye issues I highly recommend you see your Dr and find out why you're having dry eye, sometimes simpler solutions present themselves that don't require the expense of eye drops or other factors are present which require appropriate action. its often tempting to just go with the obvious OTC solutions but these are your eyes we're talking about, professional diagnosis should be the first step you take and it gives you knowledge to guide future buying decisions. It might seem a little pricey at first glance, but you get 2 vials that each last a good bit depending on how you dose your eyes. It may take one a little bit of time to develop the skill to produce a single drop instead of a rope, but once you get that down your tube will last a lot longer (hint: pull down your bottom lid and hold the tube close to the edge of your lid, you'll be able to feel the gel's bead as it forms, blink, done). I've seen this on shelves in my local pharmacies and at first glance it seems the same price per tube till you look closer and see that the tube is smaller by on average 30% or more.

Good solution -- no pun intended.
I have dry eye, and have tried several different overnight eye drop products. I like this one because I don't wake up with my eyes glued shut or with foggy vision. I do sometimes have to put in more drops during the night, but that is not different from the others. These drops do not work for me during the day, because they do interfere with clear vision for, say, 30 minutes, which is just too long. But for sleeping, they are the answer I'd been looking for.

Good for bedtime
This gel works great if applied just before bed. For me., the comfort lasts for the first several hours in the morning. I recommend it for anyone with chronic dry eyes.

If your dog has pannus....
I realize this is not a dog product, but my dog has pannus, which is a genetic disorder found in many German Shepherds, which left untreated can cause the dog to go blind. This review is meant for anyone who has a dog with eye problems. I apologize that I can't comment on how it works for humans. My disclaimer aside, I take my dog twice a year to see an animal eye specialist. My dog has prescription optimmune, which he gets once or twice daily, depending on the sunshine. I have also tried every type of doggles out there to protect his eyes from sun, but he honestly hates them all.So the last time I went to see the eye specialist, it was recommended that I try this product in between the prescription stuff. As much money as I have spent on my dog, this was no big deal.Well, my dog doesn't tolerate it as well as the RX. I don't know what it is about this stuff, but my dog doesn't like it. When it's "medicine" time, which he knows, he generally jumps on the couch, ears go down, and he patiently waits for me to put his prescription meds in. When I started this, he didn't give it a second thought until I put it in his eyes, then after that, every time it was time for meds, he insisted on sniffing the tube. If it was the prescription, he was okay with it, if it was this stuff, the GenTeal, he wanted nothing to do with it.After what seemed like forever, he finally got used to this stuff, though he doesn't care for it. He tolerates it better than doggles. It does offer some protection for his eyes, and lubricates his eyes, though it doesn't benefit his eyes as much. The big deal here is that if he wears doggles, and we take him out to play, he won't play. If we put this in his eyes, and we take him out to play, he has a good 'ol doggy time. This is nowhere near the protection that doggles would offer, but when questioning your dogs quality of life, I'll take this over nothing.

A lifesaver!
My Opthamologist recommended this product to me as I was having trouble seeing due to extremely dry eyes. After a month, she was really pleased with my progress. The gel is super easy to use (I use it when I go to bed). It is hard to find, in the small town I live in, so ordering it from Amazon is a godsend.
