THE beginner fountain pen! (+ how to fix it if you're clumsy)
PROS+ Amazing price+ Lovely construction with a great weight+ Writes very well+ Nibs are easily replaceable+ Lots of ways to fill the ink+ Clip is quite sturdyCONS- Prone to leaking into cap if carried around; if you post the cap, you'll probably end-up with ink on the top of your pen- The point where the cap meets pen isn't terribly comfortable, but you get used to itQUICK & DIRTY: This pen is so cheap, that you shouldn't even hesitate on the purchase: you won't be sorry! I love this pen so much that I bought 3 of them (1 as a gift, 2 for me). It's not without its flaws, but you'd be spending a lot more money to get a pen that can beat it!LONG & NERDY:Within the first hour of using this pen, I dropped it on the nib. Hooray. Rather than buying a new one, I found out that this pen is compatible with the Pilot Penmanship which is an extra fine (AKA even thinner nib than this Metropolitan's). I loved the result so much that I replaced the nib on the 2nd Metropolitan I purchased. Doing so is as simple as removing the plastic and metal section of the nib by gently squeezing and twisting it off (please, for the sake of your white dress shirt, be sure that there isn't any ink left in the pen), and switching out the metal nib while using the same plastic holder. -- Penmanship Fountain Pen with Ergo Grip FP50R-NCEF 3 Pens Value Set There are lots of ways to fill the pen with ink. The easiest and cleanest method is by purchasing replacement cartridges. The pen comes with one cartridge as well as a converter (AKA thing that you can use to manually refill the ink) inside the pen by default . More on that later. I recommend buying a few cartridges just to have at the ready in case you run out of ink while out. Note that refilling with this method takes a minute or two for the ink to be ready to use. Even if you go down the dip-ink method, it's handy having a few empty cartridges. More on that later as well. -- Pilot Namiki IC100 Fountain Pen Ink Cartridge, Black, 12 Cartridges per Pack (69100) The included converter is a convenient squeeze bladder where you dip the pen tip into ink, squeeze, let the bladder fill with ink (repeat until there aren't any bubbles), and wipe the tip with a paper towel. This is nice if you'll be leaving the pen at home, but not that practical if you're using the pen as an everyday carry since you can't see how much ink is left + it holds slightly less than the cartridge. I highly recommend the Pilot Iroshizuku inks! -- Pilot Iroshizuku Bottled Fountain Pen Ink, Syo-Ro, Dew on Pine Tree, Dark Turquoise (69206) You can also buy Pilot's CON-50 twist converter. I've avoided it so far because it holds even less ink than the bladder, though it's easy to see how much ink you have left. -- Pilot Fountain Pen Converter (CON-50) I was taking a class where I was basically writing nonstop from 8am - 5pm, and I'd almost go through an entire cartridge in a day (something I don't think I'll manage to do again for quite some time). The other lower-capacity methods weren't that appealing to me, so I came across a simple solution that's my go-to method now. I basically rinse out a depleted cartridge, remove the little, black seal if it's still there, and use a syringe to refill the cartridge with my favorite ink. Now I have the best of all worlds: a high-capacity cartridge, the ink I love, the ability to see how much I have left.At the end of the day, I needed a pen that could write dependably and beautifully. This pen does that. I've devoted a lot more time and research into this writing utensil than anyone really needs to, but here's my excuse (this is mostly addressed to my eye-rolling wife): I now have 2 pens that I use for pretty much every bit of writing I do. They write dependably, look VERY nice (even when compared to pens costing 10x as much), and make writing a pleasurable experience for me. I'm notorious for losing pens all the time. Now I don't.

Very Nice!
My first fountain pen since high school 50 years ago. It is wonderful and, for the money, I don't think you could beat it. I purchased a bronze finish pen with fine nib. The fine nib is perfect for me. I was a little worried it would be too fine but it's just right. I was tempted to buy the medium but I am glad I did not. I also purchased a pack of 12 ink cartridges figuring I would do some writing before I decided to go with bottle ink and the converter. I like the convenience of the cartridge. I just ran through my first cartridge and got 15 journal pages out of it. That is about 3,750 words in my hand and A4 journal so mileage may vary but I was pretty happy with that. Be sure to carry a few spare cartridges if you go this way. I think I will probably stick with the cartridges. One memory I have of high school was getting ink all over my clothes when I fouled up loading the pen from an ink bottle.edit three years laterthis pen just keeps going and going. I have written a journal page per day for the last three years and the thing writes just like it was brand new. I am writing this update because I just ran out of ink writing my boat's logbook. I use a ballpoint for the logbook and am going to purchase a second metropolitan for the boat so I can just slap in another ink cartridge when I run out of ink. Obviously I am a happy camper and would highly recommend this pen. It's cheap and it's good. Perfect combo.

Pilot Metropoliten is BRILLIANT!!!!
I have currently have become a “Penner”... and have purchased 9 fountain pens Since December 2018! I started out with a recommended Jinho 750 for a beginner pen. And received 3 inks for 3 pens...all Med Nib’s. The fourth ink coming from Japan, sorry all the inks are at the office and I can’t remember...I’ll update that later. The reason for pens at work, for what I do, I am a Major Gifts Officer, so hand writing personal notes are so vital. Adding the element of fountain penning was brilliant for 2019! We added a fine nib purchase, and they do not flow well and have a difficult time having the Nib and pen to function well together with ink.I then went on to purchase the Jinho 450, which I like the feel of better than the 750... there is a really nice weight to the 450 and writing med Nib. I was obviously hooked! Then saw the Jinho 159, a big fatty! I like very much, the weight and feel. I was so hooked, I went and purchased the Jinho 8802 Shell FP Fine Nib but had wait for this one. Through this I have learned to clean the nibs with a little dish soap. Then I was looking for the calligraphy style and purchased a 1 pc Calligraphy Art Fountain Pen Handcrafted Bamboo Chisel-point writing Gothic Arabic Italic Pen, it was 90% there, but it blots at the least expected times...like on an envelope using Noodlers Black Water Proof Ink. Inks I’ve purchased for home are iroshizuku, by Pilot 15ml - 3 color set - AMA / FG / SY (Japan Import)... and then purchased the Pelican 4001 Made in Germany “Brilliant Brown” still working with this one. Sorry for all the details, but I’m really excited to review this “Pilot Metropolitan Collection FP, Gold Barrel, Classic Design, Fine Nib, Black Ink (91112) WOW! WOW! WOW! WOW! Straight out of the box and out of the case and writing like a dream! Yes, I started out with FP’s that were very expensive, I didn’t know if I would like writing and so I made an investment in all these pens, a hobby it has become and I knew that if it didn’t work out, the hobby was NOT a weekend Skiing adventurer, where I bought all the equipment for the weekend and didn’t ski again to the following year! BUT, when I started to write with this Metropolitan, Oh My WhurDa! When done, I leave it in the case it came with on my small desk and display it with all the pens I have for home...5...I told you I was hooked! So I wrote the review and it is in the pic attached. Oh, i need to share this, my wife says to me...you know, I need to write a lot of notes and thank you cards...I should start writing...Soooo, tomorrow a Zoohot Elegant Chinese Plum Flower Pattern FP with push in converter Antique Heavy Gift arrives tomorrow for my wife!!! At work, the VP says I’m getting pens and then a counter part in TN says ok, I will as well... I am not alone on this journey at work, I have a dear friend Dan, and he and I both do the same job but different parts of the country and we are hooked and writing! I have written to my daughters in Budapest, Hungry for a year, they were so excited to get my letters!!! I hope this review was helpful! PILOT METROPOLITAN Rating FIVE Stars!!! See pic for review...

Exceptional fountain pen at a reasonable price
This is my first Pilot pen and I absolutely love how smoothly it glides on paper. I didn't need any of those fancy patters on the pen so I went for the solid color classic design. After all, the purpose of a pen is to write, not to worship. It's a tool, not a jewelry, not at this price point anyway. The pen's full metal body feels solid in hand, the weight is just right for someone like me and I've been writing for 3 hours straight since I got this baby. My hand did not feel the slightest tiredness, which is rare, because I do need to take a break here and there when I use other fountain pens. The Pilot Metropolitan comes installed with the squeeze type converter. Definitely not the best converter out there, in fact, it's kind of cheap, but it gets the job done. There is also an ink cartridge that's included in the box which you can swap in to replace the converter.Overall, this is a solid fountain pen that deserves its spot in your collection. It has become my go-to pen for signatures and note taking, and I'm sure it will be for you, too.
