Pretty they are not
I bought a new split level ranch and was concerned that my senior 100+ pound dogs, who have lived in a one level house the over a decade I have had them both, may have some problems using the stairs that separate the levels in the house. I bought these strips to give them more grip, so they won't slip down the steps. These strips have given me a bit of reassurance of my older dogs' use of the steps. They are not pretty by any stretch of the imagination. I was hoping they would be a bit more transparent than they are; but they do the job; and that is what is most important. If aesthetics are important to you, try another product. I almost bought one of the more decorative items; but I ended up choosing this item because it seemed to be more of a rough stopping surface. So, yes, I gave up some aesthetics; but I believe these will help my dogs stay in control on the steps better. They adhere well; and they work for my dogs! I did not find the need for a roller to help them adhere to the stairs. Just clean the surface you are going to put them on, and apply and press with your hands. No roller needed.

Quality CLEAR Abrasive Treads - Great for indoor & Outdoor, Comfortable on Bare Feet
I'm very happy with this product. These CLEAR stair treads are just what I needed for an open wood stairway to prevent pets and family members from slipping and falling. They are CLEAR and the white backing is deceiving that the tread appears to be white and I almost sent these back, as I wanted to see the natural hardwood oak steps, not a white tread. Don't worry, the tread is a sturdy textured CLEAR plastic that looks great on the hardwood steps. It is also slip-proof for shoes, stocking feet or barefoot and it is not too abrasive to your skin when walking on it, so pets will be okay with their tender paws. The treads come with a heavy rubber roller to ensure that you get good contact on the floor/step and the glue side of the tread. The trick to applying is to fold back the first inch of white paper backing so you can place the sticky side down and align it in place before contact, then carefully peel the loose end along the length to reveal the glue to the floor/step so that it peels and seals at the same time. Then use the rubber roller to eliminate any air bubbles for full contact. You may want to mark the steps with a pencil or removable tape so you get them properly placed, as removing them will be difficult and also compromise the glue side. You can't beat the price or the quality of the product as other options were much more expensive. I would definitely purchase these again.

They are all right, but I have had bad luck with them.
I am not sure if my roommate and I are just really unlucky, but both of us fell down the stairs in spite of these treads being in place. Mind you, the steps at our apartment are very slippery. I had never fallen down any stairs until these ones. If you have socks on, you might as well just jump down the stairs yourself. The treads do help with avoiding a slippery end overall, but they don't cover the entire step. I guess there are still parts that are still too slippery. I don't think it is the fault of the treads but maybe the steps in the apartment are badly designed. My biggest complaint though is that these treads are difficult to clean. I have a cat, and the cat hair gets on the edges of the treads. I try to vacuum them but it only does so much. Also, do not make the mistake of using a mop on them. The mop will only fall apart. Maybe I just have bad luck with mops, too.The other problem I had was that air bubbles got trapped underneath the treads. It was difficult to try to push them out and some treads still have bubbles in areas. All in all I think the product is okay for what I paid, but I probably should have invested in more expensive ones....

these stair treads work really well
I like the way they install easily, the translucent look so the stair color comes through, and mainly how you don't slip and fall on the stairs the way I used to do, occasionally. I have had to replace them though; but not for a few years of constant use. Toward the end of their usefulness, what I didn't like was that some corners came up and spills crept under them showing and I couldn't get to them to wash away. (my stairs are old wood and uneven so can't blame the treads for that)

Helped our dog regain confidence going up and down hardwood stairs! Worth it!
Wouldn’t be my first choice aesthetically indoors on dark hardwood, BUT, we have hardwood stairs and our sweet dog kept slipping on when going down and had developed a big fear of going up them, really just of the stairs in general. Not only that, but her nails would scratch the hardwood when she would slip. Heck, I’ve slipped down them on occasion in socks. These were perfect to add. I ended up cutting them in half vertically (we live in a tri-level with 2 sets of stairs) and applying them with a rubber roller close to the edge of the stairs and in due time our pup slowly regained confidence going up and down. No more slipping and lowered the risk of injuries.I have not tried to remove them, so I’m not sure how easily they will be to remove but I heard a vinegar/soap soaking solution helps. Have had them applied for roughly 10 months now and they haven’t peeled up or anything! Heavy duty and made for traffic.

more translucent than clear, bad packaging leaves permanent creases when installed, otherwise a decent product
The product isn't as clear as we'd hoped, though to be fair it is listed as clear-translucent. The clarity does depend on how well adhered it is to the substrate, and the rubber roller recommended for installation IS key. Pressing it in place by hand is wearing on the skin, as the non-slip is very abrasive when new. My biggest critique is how it was packaged; the strips were folded twice and compressed to make them more compact for packaging/shipping, which left permanent creases that were very, very difficult to press out when installing. It would have been FAR better to either find a way to ship them flat, or just roll them up in a loose cylinder with NO CREASES. Yes, I understand that that would make them harder to display in a brick-and-mortar store, but you'd have a much more usable product.
