I'm so very glad to have read this entertaining novel. Because I know the author, I purchased this book. Because I'm familiar with most of the (in-America) locations, I found it highly entertaining ; a page turner. And because of the challenging storyline and the excellent writing I would recommend this book to any and everyone. Thank you, Phillip for this unequaled story.

This book is so much more than a story about the American Civil War. Just like the actual war, the soldiers and their families have richly textured and varied characters. Don't expect the usual bodice-ripper period romance. This is a warm and thrilling tale of love and the journey of life that happens to be set against the rough background of a war.

Great saga. Could not put it down. As a combat veteran it actually gave me some peace to read this. Thank you for writing it.

If you like historical fiction, then you'll enjoy this book. The fusion of civil war and Japanese culture add an interesting twist you've probably never read before.

Wonderfully written book. Provided a great insight to Japanese culture and PTSD. I have a friend that I promise I now understand better.

Great book from start to finish. These characters come to life due to masterful writing and story telling in both pace and volume. Easily a book I will revisit again in years to come. Very believable fiction.

Kept me entertained through the summer! Great read for Aikido aficionados with an interesting incorporation of local Civil War history.
