Sotatsu

Great book with many excellent reproductions. The reason of 4stars is that it has no mentioning about his animal paintings on the wooden doors of Yogenji temple in Kyoto. These paintings deserve as some of his most amazing representative work,Overall, the book is fantastic. Highly recommended.

I can't evaluate it as an expert, just as an enthusiast Japanophile. Excellent photos and many of them and at sizes where you can see the detail, lots of very learned text. Definitely recommended.

Oltre alla qualità di stampa che è superba, e alle stupende riproduzioni su 4 pagine, il catalogo spicca per la quantità e la qualità dei saggi su Sōtatsu: da come l'opera sia arrivata negli Stati Uniti d'America, al ruolo che l'artista ricopre nell'arte giapponese e mondiale. Si potrebbe obiettare che, trattandosi di un catalogo di opere d'arte, il testo scritto prevale sulle immagini, si dimenticherebbe però che dell'autore resta poco. Eppure "questo poco" è presentato in modo eccelso, tanto da meritare tutte e cinque le stelle di questa recensione.

This is an excellent book about a seminal artist of the early 17th century with detailed essays and excellent reproductions of his and related works. After I borrowed this from my library, I just had to get my own copy.
