When in Rome: A Novel

Adorable romance, especially for those who don’t want spice!
I read this book because I had seen the second book in the series recommended and refuse to read books out of order in series( I know I’m not alone in this.) This romance was absolutely adorable and had a beautiful flow throughout the entire book. I will say there is pretty much zero spice in this so this would be a great book option for people who don’t want to read smart but still want to read about love. The characters and their story really make you fall in love with everyone in this small town. Highly recommend when in Rome!

A Charming Escape (4/5 stars)
"When in Rome" by Sarah Adams was such a delightful escape! I loved the whole "Roman Holiday" vibe with the pop star hiding out in a small town. Amelia was hilarious, and Noah's grumpy sunshine personality totally won me over. The small town itself felt charming and quirky, and the side characters were a riot.It wasn't the deepest book ever, but sometimes you just want a cute, feel-good romance, and this totally delivered. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because a couple of plot points felt a bit rushed. Still, a super enjoyable read!

Not as good as these other people would have you believe.
"I think we’ll get hurt a lot in this life, but maybe it’s worth it because sometimes we will experience really amazing things, too. Maybe not everything will end in hurt. But we’ll never know if we don’t try."He's a small town guy recovering from heartbreak. She's a pop star looking for a break from the spotlight. Inspired by Audrey Hepburn's Roman Holiday, Amelia travels to Rome, KY (Italy is not an option for now) and finds herself in Noah's front yard. Stranded and without any other options, she accepts his offer for help. But he's grumpy and doesn't want to get involved. Without even meaning to, she slowly chips away at his defenses. She falls in love with the small town and the people, but she has a life and commitments she can't leave behind. This was a sweet story but didn't have a lot of depth. Honestly I had trouble getting past anyone (much less a celebrity) staying in a house with a complete stranger. And choosing to stay with that stranger and not seek lodging somewhere else. That just couldn't actually be an option. The rest of the book was cute. I like that the town is protective of Amelia. And I love a grumpy sunshine trope. But I would recommend several other books over this one.

Delightful read
Overwhelmed by her career and obligations Amelia, aka Rae Rose to her adoring fans, decides to leave town and spend some time in a small town a few hours from her home in Nashville, but when her car breaks down in the middle of the night in what looks like a back road without cell service, she panics and start rethinking her whole strategy. It’s then when she meets Noah, the grumpy man who will change her life.I had never read this author and this book was an amazing surprise. Being an all-time fan of classic movies and having Roman Holiday high on my favorites list, I was wary of the plot at first as I’ve read huge flops claiming to be a take on the movie, but this time was the fabulous exception as Ms. Adams wrote a delightful, fun and heartfelt tale where a woman escaping from the crushing pressures of her life finds herself and love in the most unexpected place of all.The book is beautifully written and, while it was obviously inspired by the movie, keeps its originality and greatly respects the source. It was refreshing to read a story that is fun, sweet and engaging from beginning to end and not a run of the mill book that starts as a rom-com and ends up as a soggy attempt at being funny.Noah Walker is the perfect book boyfriend, his sisters and the rest of the town a complete hoot and sweet, lost, misguided Amelia is a joy to read as she navigates the hardships of finding her voice and taking charge of her life.I truly loved reading When in Rome and will be looking up more books by the author soon.5 absolutely glorious stars

A Modern Day Roman Holiday
Having read the cheat sheet, which I thought was a bit over-hyped, I wasn't sure if I would enjoy When in Rome. I was totally wrong. It's a classic romance plot with sweet characters in a small town. For the non-spice readers, this book is closed door and it works great. I sometimes feel that adult romance novels feel unfinished or lacking when there isn't a more detailed depiction of adult relationships, but this one didn't feel like it was missing anything. One for the slow-burn lovers!
