Very nice antenna quality the way they used to be years ago.5/8 wave over 5/8 wave, is an old design that works and performs very well. Using it as a base antenna with a radial kit.Trimmed the base rod slightly to get a perfect SWR 1:1Hears and talks as good as a full size 5/8 wave.Browning makes very nice antennas at a very reasonable price.UPDATE:Purchase a 2nd one for use on my VW.Again, got a perfect matching SWR.Got an NMO magnet mount from browning have installed it to the rear just before the hatch.Now this antenna has quite a bit more wind load at higher speeds due to the size of the rod and the matching center load.. and I would recommend getting the larger 5 1/2 in magnet base as they'll be considerable more wind resistance at higher speeds and the smaller mag bases will probably fail.Antennas that are matched for a specific band perform much better, and over the years I've never found a dual band antenna that didn't struggle with the SWR accordance to its ground plane a car can provide.There is no perfect ground scenario you can provide that won't aggravate a dual band antenna.But you dual banders would probably argue with me till the cows came home but they'd all be emptied of their milk at sunset before I opened the gate.It's not a perfect world out there when it comes to radios and antennas and there's always challenges to overcome and that's the beauty of it as you'll never be fulfilled with boredom.

Connected this to my Midland GMRS mobile 15 watt. Been able to have excellent communications with base station in a radius of 15 km. Marginal at 20 km. Eliminated the need for cell phones for the kids while at the lake.

I bought this antenna for use with a hand-held GMRS radio while traveling. My first SWR test came in at over 15. That's fifteen - not 1.5. I didn't know it was possible to have such a horribly high SWR reading. Unlike so many other people posting about this antenna, I did not receive any instructions whatsoever about tuning the antenna so I spent some time reading the comments of other reviewers. After reading the reviews I decided to take a chance and trim a little of the bottom segment of the antenna to see if that would lower the SWR. I chopped off about 1/3 inch using a bolt cutter and then retested the SWR. This time the reading was a little over ten (that's right 10.0 - not 1.0). That reading was still horrible, so I thought "what the Hell - I'll chop another 1/3 inch off and see what happens. So, I snipped another 1/3 - 1/2 inch off and tested the SWR again. Lo and behold - the reading now came in at 1.15. That's a great SWR reading and I didn't expect that much improvement. So now I am a happy camper. I almost deducted a star for not getting instructions on trimming the antenna, but all things considered, I have to give this antenna 5 stars since the SWR came out so close to perfect.
