All About Rocks and Minerals: An Introduction for Kids (My First)

I was assuming it would be more young child friendly. The pictures are vivid but the wording is a bit big for my toddler. She is a big rock collector so being able to tell her what type of rock she has is a great teaching moment plus makes her collection world seem even more interesting to her. That being said I would have liked a more child level based explanation written on the pages.

My 8 yr old grandson is very fond of all kinds of rocks and geodes. This is a well thought out book. He is enjoying it along with the set of gemstones and rocks I gave him as well.

Brief introductory information about what rocks, minerals, birthstones are with the majority of the book consisting of 50 of the 70 pages total, each dedicated to one specimen, alphabetically from agate to turquoise. The information for each is pronunciation, description, properties and an interesting fact. So very brief and the main item is the beautiful picture of the specimen. I wish there were a summary table of contents because I personally don't know enough about a specimen to be able to look it up just by its name. I received a digital review copy from the publisher.

I bought “All About Rocks and Minerals” for my great 5 year old nephew who already has a large collection of rocks and minerals. The large photos and basic, clear descriptions are perfect. This book will help to peak his interest without overwhelming him with too much information.
