An Excellent Sequel
A Wanderer Among the Dead is the sequel to The Devil's Cohort and, while not my preferred genre, I enjoyed The Devil's Cohort so much that I wanted to read the sequel. And it did not disappoint! Throughout A Wanderer Among the Dead we watch Elena - who we met in The Devil's Cohort - struggle with the power that she's been blessed with (or is that cursed with?) while learning that is can be used for both good and bad.The author does a masterful job with his descriptions. I felt like I could hear the hustle and bustle of the marketplace, like I could smell the forests all around me, and like I could have reached out and touched the crumbling stone ruins of the castle. The author really is skilled at transporting you into the world that he's created. And I enjoyed the interludes down in hell (and yes, I know what that reads like!). The sections of the story that were told in hell felt lighter and brighter than the rest of the novel. They broke up what could otherwise have been a very dark novel, giving it more of an ebb and flow.Overall, an excellent sequel! Roll on part 3.
