Great bird book for the southeast
Great bird book for the southeast with great pictures and details about each bird.

Primarily for beginners
Many questionable choices here. First, it's large and heavy for a field guide. Second, a full seventy pages up front are devoted to "how to be a birder" materials intended for novices only. Finally, the coverage choices make it unusable for even moderately more experienced birders like myself. I have an upcoming trip to Louisiana planned, and a great many of the less obvious (but not truly rare) species I hope to see... and need to bone up/refresh on, are not included. I can't justify adding this to my luggage. It's too bad... for what birds ARE included, the photos and writeups are of excellent quality, as was expected from Cornell. Next edition, maybe 70 more birds instead of "intro to birding" pages and a somewhat smaller volume size?

Missing a lot of birds
This book doesn’t even have birds that are in my backyard pond. Very disappointing.

Good beginners' guide
No nonsense, basic, and clearly written field guide. Best part of the book is the first 50 pages that includes useful general info about birds and birding. However, 210 species doesn't really cut it beyond beginners' level. Even some very common birds are missing.
