I haven't enjoyed a book for a while as always go for the romance. This book is just amazing I didn't know what to expect but I couldn't put it down.

Loved it ++
I very rarely write reviews felt impelled too as I absolutely loved this book! Did not foresee the ending and kept wondering how could it solve the mystery of this broken relationship but such clever writing kept me glued to this book right to the last page. Wanted to get to the end but it was one of those books that I was sorry when I got there. Highly recommend,

It takes a lot of strength to forgive
I really did enjoy this book. I think you can break the mold if you choose to, it isn’t always true that you have to follow the methods in how your mother raised you, with the way you raise your own children.I know it was a different generation when Fay was born, but being bitter and hostile does not make a harmonious household, as we discover when the story unfolds .I loved Amber’s relationship with her grandmother once they came under the same roof to live for a while.The heartbreak we discover made me very emotional and sad. Two sixteen year olds dealing with such sadness and sorrow in the late 80’s early 90’s, when they ran away to London.The puzzles the father used to leave for his wife and daughter when he went away to work were lovely, because it brought them together for a little while. I liked the fact that they found another that had not been completed, so it became a bit of a family challenge which brought them closer.Hoover the dog sounded very cute and was a bit of an ice breaker at times, especially for Amber.It was such an honest book that the scenario has probably played out plenty of times in lots of families.Lovely to have Manchester as the setting too.

An excellent book.
Robin ran away from home as a teenager after her father died. She is estranged from her Mother, Faith. She returns home almost 30 years later to help, after Faith has a bad fall. Her old bedroom is still there untouched like a time warp. So much has changed in their lives but the room is still there full of the old Robin, bright colours 1980’s clothes, music & posters. Best of all the letters Robin wrote all her teenage angst poured out onto the problem pages of Debbie. Robin’s daughter arrives to join the melee. Will she see any changes in her Mum and will she get on with her Gran because Robin doesn’t & Faith is still cold & critical?I loved reading this book , it is full of nostalgia for those long gone teenage years, magazines, pale pink lips & blue eyeshadow, boyfriends, girlfriends so much angst & spots! Now I also see things from the perspective of a parent, feeling for both older Faith & Robin. I smiled, cried, worried & laughed alongside them.I look forward to reading more from Samantha Tonge :-)

Heartening
I loved how heartening and easy this was to read. At times, the suspense that robins story provided was frustrating as it was fairly obvious what the secret was, but that does add to the storyline as a whole. I found Robin to be slightly irritating at points and a little self centred, but that was part of her growth and I think it was her character growth and her mother's which kept me turning the pages. The descriptions felt natural and I could easily imagine being in the cosy house, eating comforting food and reminiscing.
