An AMAZING book for any age!
Bought it for my nephew then bought one for two friends โฆ.then bought one for myself!Itโs such a wonderful work of art and lovely sentiments on finding Your rock! My Mother took all four of her kids on their own journeys on beaches, trails, mountains or deserts to find our own rocks. This book is a wonder.

Great book
I had this book for my kids when they were little. It was one of their favorites. Just such a nice message that really pinpoints how kids might feel about rocks in a poetic manner. Soโฆ I just recently got this copy for a friends little kids. Hoping they love it as much. Donโt know yet as I just gave it to them. Illustrations are very simple. Itโs just how this author does his books. Itโs not my favorite but his message supersedes that. Itโs a must have for any little kids that love rocks, or adults.

Love sharing books by Byrd Baylor with the little ones
I purchased this book to read with my grandchildren - ages 5 and 2. When we are in the woods we love to find special rocks and bring them home sometimes. We love to connect with our rocks and this book was a good way to learn about finding a special rock. My 5 year old grandson enjoyed the book more than the 2 year old but I am sure as the little one grows he will enjoy this as well. We are in nature regularly so we can't bring home too many rocks and this book shared how we only need one special rock. I think any little ones who love the outdoors and exploring will enjoy this book.

A Beloved Gift - for any age. Keep a stack on-hand!
Curiosity / Celebrations / Ceremonies . . .three ingredients of works by Byrd Baylor that make them essentials in the library for our youngest students as they examine the Essential Questions all humans have pondered. Do we use a multi-cultural framework that includes "all people are curious" and then invites examination of the ways in which humans have responded - stories, revelation, religious beliefs, scientific notions.Four Byrd Baylor titles that need to be part of this exploration: Everybody Needs A Rock, Hawk, I Am Your Brother, The Way To Start A Day, and I'm In Charge Of Celebrations. When I talk to parents and teachers about these titles. .. and read aloud any/all of them. . . they scoop up however many copies I may have on hand that day. I cannot overemphasize the important role they will play. Everybody Needs A Rock is a title I always have a stack of on hand. . . along with a batch of smooth rocks that feel just right in your hand. When I give them as a gift - to anyone of any age, I tell them they have to read the book. . . and go and find their own rock, as instructed!

To encourage reading by youngsters
This was recommended to me by my daughter who has experience in working with young people.I needed something to read to 7-8 years old kids as part of our Rotary Club program. The children loved the book and I gave each a copy of his own, plus I let them each choose from a large selection of rocks that I had brought along. I received thank you notes from all the wonderful children.

Cute
Sweet book. The illustrations are artistic and unique for a children's book. I love that it will jump out from the other books simply based on it's art. The story will be a gift for whoever picks it.

Childhood staple
This is a book that I've bought for nearly every friend who's had a kid. It's one of the most beautifully illustrated simple stories. I had this as a kid and many (many) years later the art style still influences my own designs and it's just a lovely departure from the Doras and Barneys and mainstream loudness.
