Vogue Knitting: Designer Knits

Really a good addition to my knitting library
I loved so many of the designer patterns that I don't know where to start. Easy for me to understand and follow (I have intermediate experience). I would recommend this to all fairly experienced knitters, although some of the patterns are tailored toward "easy" for those not so experienced. Whatever the choice, there are many gorgeous patterns in this book. I am glad to have found it.

Classic Patterns
I love this knitting book which is filled with classic patterns from the past. It is similar to Vogue Knitting: Very Easy Knits, but the patterns are more complicated. The one thing I don't like about this is the fact that some of the styles use shoulder pads which are no longer in "vogue". The patterns would have to be altered to change that. Most of the patterns are usable as is, however. There are many elegant, classic sweaters and other garments included in this book. I would recommend it as an addition to any knitter's library.

Start w/the Bubble Sweater & work up to the Enchanted Forest
I positively love this book. How can you go wrong with the patterns for the Enchanted Forest cardigan, the Bubble Sweater and the Counterpane Pullover all in one book? I am also fond of the handsome Missoni Man's (or women's) Cardigan with a doubled shawl collar (easily do-able, even for those with intermediate skills) and the Cropped Hooded Sweater from Joan Vass. I've made three of those -- it's easy to substitute yarns (just double-strand something pretty), there is little shaping and the result is fabulous. The only problem I have with the Vogue knitting books is the lack of detail in the photographs. It would help to see close-ups of the knitted fabric, stitch designs, and even the yarn itself. Perhaps future Vogue collections will include at least photos of the yarn, much the same way as Vogue Knitting magazine does now.I was a bit surprised by the other reviews -- I feel this collection is full of wearable designs (not just "mod gorgeous") for all skill levels. There are a number of handsome cabled designs, and the Missoni One-Piece Tee is quite stunning. The Bubble Sweater has been a great favorite with knitters for years and is flattering on anyone. Start with that -- and work up to the Enchanted Forest.I recommend this book. I've knit about a third of the patterns, a couple of them more than once. I've found it easy to substitute yarns and even to vary the sizing on some of the patterns. My next project from this collection will be Perry Ellis' long Fair Isle Crew Neck. The designs are inspirational and a lot of fun to knit.

Not my favorite
Some of the designs in this book are good, but most I am not interested in knitting. I like the vogue book "Very Easy Knits" a lot better. I would not recommend this book, the styles are outdated maybe if you wait 15 to 20 more years these styles might come back in again.

Beautiful book
Absolutely gorgeous patterns. Probably a bit hard for average knitters but still something to aim for in the future

Classic Designs by some of the best fashion designers
The book may be now a good few years old, but the majority of the designs inside are as fresh as ever, classic, fashionable and elegant, living up to the book's Vogue label. A great variety of designers are giving the knitter/reader the opportunity to knit from patterns by DKNY to Missoni and Perry Ellis via many others, which have all stood the test of time and feel very up to the minute. I have already selected several for my project list, as there are plenty of beautiful designs, interesting, challenging and enjoyable for the knitter, great to wear and to be admired in.Some knitters may want to update the pattern of choice by using current designer yarns and their colours, a good quality yarn shop will always be happy to help, most advanced knitters will be able to visualise how a garment will look in an alternative yarn/colour choice, also swatching can help here a good deal. The book is not intended for the complete beginner, but for the knitter, who wants to advance their skill set in a chic, fashionable manner. I can whole-heartedly recommend this book, I therefore can give this book the full 5 stars.

i had been searching for the pattern for a cardigan i had in a vogue knitting magazine years ago. unfortunately i could not find it and that issue is now out of print. i was thrilled to find it in this book. i was able to knit the enchanted forest cardigan i had made many years ago all over again!! so, so pleased!
