A Straight Forward Jack Ryan Jr. Thriller
Jack Ryan, Jr. is on a forced leave from his position with the Campus. Taking stock of his life, and trying to figure out the best direction forward, Ryan is almost caught off guard when a man tried to kill him while Ryan is bringing groceries to his car. There is a second man at the scene. A back-up in case the first guy couldn't do the job? Ryan isn't sure. More importantly, he has no idea why someone would want him dead in the first place.Teaming up with the young son of a once-famous journalist, Ryan and Effrem begin to piece together a sinister plot. Something big is about to go down. The problem is the two have no idea what that something big is, where it is going to happen, or who is behind the plan.Deciding they need more evidence before going forward to the authorities, the duo work closely as they fit together the odd-shaped pieces of the puzzle. An absolutely riveting read! From start to finish the book is explosive. It is a little more cut - and - dry when compared to the overly complex "Tom Clancy" novels most fans may be used to. I for one enjoyed the reprise of 1,000 Russian names that all sound alike, and the double and triple agents that leave my head spinning. Duty and Honor was more of a straight forward thriller. And I loved it!Phillip TomassoAuthor of Absolute Zeroand Damn the Dead

Good but not Tom Clancy
Some things are just too fanciful and unbelievable. Jack doing all of this was just not believable. The events are possible but not Clancy believable. When Jack called others "idiot", he should have been referring to himself and his own actions. Still, a fun read.

finds himself in some pretty preposterous situations
I miss Tom Clancy. I would have to say his estate misses him even more. This book is not really anything special; in fact, Jack Ryan Jr. finds himself in some pretty preposterous situations, especially considering he's the President's son. The book was just ok. The action is good, but as I said before, there's just no way the President's son would be walking around the streets of Washington, D.C. (or any other city) without a bodyguard detail of some sort that would have prevented the (spoiler alert) attempt on his life, which Jack survives; his subsequent investigation into who attempted to kill him, and why, takes Jack pretty much all over the globe, along with a fledgling journalist from Europe. The story takes on several twists and turns, but there's nothing unpredictable going on here; save your money, do like I do, download samples of some of the better storytellers out there writing books today, and you will likely stumble across a real story that's much more entertaining than this one was.

He Learns a Lesson
This is another winner in the John Ryan Jr. series. I have been reading theses stories related to the Ryan family over the last 8 years and written by Tom Clancy, Mark Greaney and Grant Blackwood and haven't been disappointed in any of them. This story has Jack Jr. suspended from his job with Henley Assoc. and he becomes the victim of a murder attempt. While Jack Jr. tries to find out while someone wants to kill him, he teams up with a journalist who reminds Jack of why he is on suspension. The action keeps your attention right through the end and the ending is all worth while.I recommend this book and series highly.

Solid mid rank thriller that will be enjoyed for what it is rather than discounted for what it isn't.
Nothing in this line can compare to the Tom Clancy books written by Tom Clancy, nothing to be done about that. But this one makes it on its own merit as a thriller. In this episode young Jack Ryan has the book all to himself. He has been put in time out by the Campus, so no help there for him when some unknown person or persons try to take him off the board for good. He has a reluctance to take advantage of his position as first son to the US president and seek out professional protection. But the lad is after all a chip off his father's block. He finds a way. This book has nothing to be ashamed about, except that the author is not the classic techno-thriller himself, Tom Clancy. I read it quickly, enjoyed it and did not regret the money or time spent.

fight for the future becomes practical personnel management training
During his sabbatical leave from The Campus, Jack Jr. is nearly assassinated by the unknown threat. Who do they want him dead? Why does he become their target? Without any assistance from Ysabel, nor reliable back up from The Campus, Jack’s lone pursuit begins. He hasn’t any clue on this evil but only his hunches. He flies by the seat of his pants to Virginia, NY, Connecticut, Vermont, Germany, Switzerland, France, and even to Namibia. Grant Blackwood wrote “in Hollywood blockbusters this desperate gambit was glorious to behold and almost always successful, but it rarely worked in the real world.” It worked. “Duty And Honor” far exceeds the reality. A story develops as if we’re riding on a roller coaster and/or sliding on a waterfall. In the course of his chase, he came to know two cooperators, Effrem Likkel, a would-be journalist, and Rene Allemand, a brain-washed French soldier. Their action on well-intentioned impulse taught him an invaluable lesson it doesn’t make either him or those around him bulletproof in tight spots. Seeing their behavior, Jack realizes that he himself was being impulsive, undisciplined, focused on the trees rather than the forest. Jack’s persistent tracking on his psychotic killer leads him to a powerful German businessman. How does Jurgen Rostock conceive a dream of having his own army. “Duty And Honor” insinuates danger hiding in everyone’s inside. The story tells us about a victory which would save lives in the future. On the other hand, the experience becomes a practical personnel management training for Jack. In a different situation, conversations between Jack and his two followers would easily becomes those by him and Gerry Hendley/John Clark. Playing shepherd to the impulsive Effrem and erratic Rene had been a brutal, eye-opening crash course to Jack. He is ready to his further adventure now.

Infeliz
O pior livro de toda a série! Decepção pura! Ainda bem que virá um outro que espero seja no mesmo nivel dos que Tom Clancy escrevia.
