Great Biography....Actor, Art Connsieur, Writer of Cooking and Art Books, Traveler, Raconteur
Vincent Price's daughter tells his story, tracing her father's career from his earliest years in St Louis through his first stage appearances in London, to New York, then Hollywood. At least half the book is taken up with his well-know proclivity towards the arts. The actor's accomplishments are tremendous, of course. After an early stage success he became typecast eventually for fright pictures, a two-edged sword that kept him going for a long time. But he managed to use his final experiences, to include a touring one-man show as Oscar Wilde, to test his real acting abilities. Of course, to all of us, Vinnie will always be the Abominable Dr. Phibes, and Theater of Blood's vengeful Lionheart, or the white-haired master of the house of Usher. Ms. Price does not evade Vinnie's flaws, including his efforts to avoid blacklisting and his minor role in the game show scandals to his more lamentable refusal to confront third wife, Coral Browne, when she cut him off from old friends and his children due to jealousy. A modern renaissance man who's skills ranged from menacing on-screen camp to cooking fish in a dishwasher on the Tonight Show. His final years, as age and illness sapped his strength, are sad to read. Towards the end, he was able to go out in public without being recognized, by relying on his age, his wheelchair, and a big hat pulled low. Although no doubt disappointed by his loss of vigor, Vinnie did get a chance to truly test himself as an actor towards the end of his acting career and, after Coral's passing, reconnect with his family. Very good book.

Well Done Biography of This Talented Man
My mother grew up in Missouri, knowing in her childhood Vincent Price and Betty Grable.... She often spoke of the intelligence and wit of Vincent. I was always amazed at the range of his acting talents, and his love of the art world and desire to open up the appreciation of fine paintings to more people.

Vincent Price....Must Live!
This is an excellent, engrossing book about one of my favorite actors, Vincent Price. I found the story of his last years terribly, terribly sad - and it's a lesson to everyone - don't lose sight of your family when you're on the way up, because you'll regret it when its too late to do anything about it. Mr.Price had a great life, and his legacy will live on with his fans, family and friends. My only complaints are two: As an old-time radio fan I wanted much more on Price's radio work, and when are we going to get the Art Book that was the genesis for this biograpahy? Thank you Victoria, and thank you, Vincent Price.

Must read!
Great book. His daughter obviously loved him, but she doesn't get sloppy about him or gush over him. She writes alot about the time from birth to his college years, but it's not boring. Mr. Price's life was fascinating! This is a wonderful book. I highly recommend it.

An engaging personality
Interesting for fans and film historians because Price had a long and varied mid-century career. I am not a fan but I appreciate Price's work as a professional actor. My interest was really in filling in gaps about film production during the 40s and 50s. The book served that purpose.

An enjoyable and heartfelt read
Bought this book quite a few years back (on amazon) and it was one of the best and most heartfelt biographies I'd read. Obviously as it was written by Vincents daughter Victoria, you get to hear the story from someone very close to him. I have most books by Vincent, but think this is as close as you'd ever get to finding out about the great man. I noticed Victoria is keeping the legacy alive, if you are a big fan it may well worth checking out her new upcoming videos/slide presentations on the Vincent Price website.

Wonderful and touching book
Victoria Price has written a long and dense volume about her father, from his birth, and even his parents and grandparents are in there. She covers his early stage career, his hopes and dreams as a young man, and presents him as the star and the humanitarian that the public saw by showing how he lived his life. Price was a sophisticated man but a gentle and kind one with a wicked sense of humor and we many examples of that in this book. Victoria inserts herself in as well, her brother, her mother, and Vincent's 3rd wife Coral Browne, and these people are a strong and important part of his life. Clearly she loved her dad but she doesn't skim over his faults. Vincent was the all-American boy, growing up in a time when values were important, and opportunities plentiful. I adored this book, the writing, the insights, the style. It's the best book on Price I've read and I learned quite a bit about him that I didn't know.
