Lowered my Synthroid Medication (UPDATE)
I just had a routine blood test and my TSH (thyroid hormone) was low (which means your meds are lowered) and I couldn't figure out why that would be until I remembered I've been taking these Selenium supplements for that past almost 3 months. So now I'm on less meds and I have another test in 2 more months to check again. I'll be back to post if I'm stable or it needs to be readjusted. It would be nice to ultimately get off any thyroid medication, but I'll wait to see what's up with the next lab test in a few months. The only thing right now that I can contribute to lowering the numbers is this supplement that I take once per day 1 hour after taking my thyroid meds.UPDATE: I stopped taking this supplement about 6 months after starting it. My TSH readings kept changing. They wet low at first and then increased. Since I stopped taking them my TSH is back to normal. I only take regular selenium now and not the brocco max formula. I think this formula activates the thyroid too much and may not be the best for someone already taking thyroid medication. My numbers went off the chart while taking this supplement. At least I know if for some reason I was unable to get synthroid medication, I could use this supplement to give my thyroid a boost temporarily. It's just not knowing how much of a boost depending on your metabolism, so I feel it's safer for me to only take synthroid right now.March 10, 2016 - UPDATE: I have since found out that any raw/uncooked broccoli including the seeds can interfere with thyroid medication. However, cooked broccoli is okay. My thyroid test have been just fine now. No more issues, but I do continue to take regular selenium.

Stops my leg pains caused by thyroid fluctuations
I have an unstable thyroid. It goes bonkers when I'm under stress. I recently had a move and some related issues and that was enough to tip me over the line. I started getting lower leg and foot pains and well as fatigue. I didn't want to go back on prescription thyroid meds, so I ordered these. I have great trust in Jarrow from my experience with some other supplements I've used by them. I wasn't at all disappointed by these. My leg and foot pains are gone!I'm so happy with these that I've decided I'm going to take one every day because my life is pretty crazy right now. These cost more than I wanted to pay, but being free of the legs pains is worth it.Additionally, you can tell by the smell that these are the real deal. I don't have a lot of trust for selenium that doesn't smell like anything. If you need selenium, these are a great choice.

Excellent Product
I've been using this product for quite a few years. No complaints. Jarrow products can be trusted to provide vitamins that are researched and updated when necessary.

Selenium for Thyroid Health
This Jarrow formula is easy to take and anyone with thyroid disease needs to check their selenium levels and supplement if they are found to have low levels. It seems a real bonus that they have included Broccomax.

Proven form of selenium methionine
Yay! You can tell this is real, highest bioavailable, selenium because it has that stinky smell. The body friendliest organic form is selenomethionine. Naturally causing the mineral sulfur to introduce itself with the selenium. Methionine is smelly! Kind of like the old egg smell, high school science class smell and broccoli vegetable smell. Naturally, it is very faint but there it is. Proof it is real. Accept no imitations. And taking with a meal or at least juice, really helps. Love it for my health, not for its perfume. So...does this explain why it is not a chewable? Not skunky- but not yummy either. It is the real stuff.

Thyroid health with one capsule
I use this as part of my personal health plan. I have Hashimoto's thryoiditis (hypothyroidism) and this capsule combines both Vit E and selenium in one dose. Selenium is best absorbed when taken with Vit E, so this is a great combination for thyroid health. There are numerous studies that show that a daily supplementation of 200 mg selenium can lower you thyroid antibodies by up to half. My TPO count went from 800 to 600 at last check, and I hope to see that continue to drop. L-tyrosine and ashwaghanda are also helpful supplements for thyroid health.

Caution--Stinky Selenium Synergy
UPDATE: I recently got back into dietary supplementation and bought another brand of selenium. Guess what? It stinks, too! I googled this and apparently bio-available selenium has something to do with supplementing a sulphur molecule or somesuch thing. The result must be smelly pills. I am a big fan of Jarrow and may give this another try, but still he cautioned that the smell was seriously overpowering. I updated my original review to 3/5 stars instead of just 1. The other brand I just bought is also smelly but didn't nearly knock me down when I opened the bottle. Happy supplementing! ;)Original review: What no one has mentioned in the reviews I read is that this stuff STINKS. I received my order right before departing on a business trip and threw my new vitamins in my bag and went on down the road. When I opened my gym bag that evening to get ready for a workout, my first thought was that my male dog had urinated on my gym bag before I left the house (they get upset when I travel). I couldn't locate any stains or wetness, though, so I thought "that's odd" and went to my workout. Upon returning, I got out all the vitamin bottles and broke the seal on the selenium. OHMYGOSH. It's horrible. It's like a combination of concentrated urine and sulfurous farts mixed with someone cooking cabbage. Seriously. That made me giggle to type that, but it's the truth. I am guessing it's something to do with the "broccomax" ingredient. This may be an effective supplement, but I could barely stand to swallow the darn thing, the smell was so off-putting. Worried if I take this regularly, my pores may begin to emit this horrid smell. I did take one and could not detect the smell in my own urine the next morning (like you can with asparagus or some other medications), but I didn't want to take any chances. I will try another type of selenium.
