Color Theory for the Make-up Artist: Understanding Color and Light for Beauty and Special Effects Paperback – October 12, 2022

Fantastic book for a working makeup artist. So much information, detailed and photographed examples and descriptions. Covers EVERYTHING from color palettes to lighting. After skimming through the book I decided to get out some paints and practice color mixing using the colors in the book. After that singular afternoon, my eye has improved greatly. I feel much more confident on jobs. I considered myself well versed in color theory before but never truly got to study the foundations of the craft until now. If you are also a painter like myself, there is double the value here! My skills have improved greatly and I am much more confident. I would have paid $$$ for a class like this so this book is truly a treat for artists. I feel gratitude for the author and will reference this book often.

I am a professional Makeup Artist for Film and Tv and Katie has summarized and put in print a very much needed reference for proper understanding of the art of Makeup and color theory as it relates directly to makeup. there is No other book like this!!This book articulates what makeup artist have been teaching but does so in a visual easy to understand format. This second edition has beautiful glossy pages which show off the important color combinations and examples. the book also goes into the stippling techniques and airbrushing for Special Makeup Effects. Perfectly detailed and described. This is a must have book for anyone, beginner or expert who wish to understand and learn more about makeup color theory and how it applies to our everyday use in makeup. I also have ver 1 which is very good, but this ver 2 enhances and expands on everything in book 1 and also has new sections and much better print quality!!The book is not too technical as to be boring, but fun to read with illustrations, photos and examples highlighting the text. Really a Must Have book for any makeup artist.

I bought this book thinking that it was going to help me understand colors that look flattering on people using make up artistry wow I was really impressed because it offers so much more. It is one of the most interesting books. I’ve purchased this year. It’s beautifully packaged and so aesthetically pleasing. It offers you so much information that has nothing to do necessarily with make up, but has to do with using pigments and colors to create certain looks and I would recommend it to aspiring artists interior designers people that are interested in learning about different forms of art and people that are interested in photography. It is written for somebody that’s intelligent and it makes a great gift. I gave it to my sister for her coffee table. Not only has it help me with my make up artist skills it , gotten me back into oil painting again and I am better understanding the use of color just with this book. It’s really cool. It also helps you understand how to use different art forms and themes to develop color theories of your own and I’m not quite sure why it’s specifically advertised as a make up artistry book because it’s so much more than that so for anybody that interested in art photography color theory styles, and the psychological effects of color this book is for you. I do admit that I had a hard time getting into learning how to mix the different pigments that they discuss to create my own make up colors, but once I read through it again. I think I’ll have a better grasp of it , what’s great about that use make up on myself much more effectively so I was using all the wrong colors and now that I have the right colors I went from looking pretty shabby to looking pretty great. For example, I have blue eyes and I want to make them look bluer I’ve never known how to really do that except to use blue colors , however what I learned from this book was that using colors with orange is the greatest way to bring out the blue because it’s opposite on the color scale. There are some complex different topics that discuss color scales and different artistry however it’s just such a cool book and I’m actually using it while I’m remodeling my house to help me determine colors and the feeling that I want to get. If you want some thing that is beautifully written offers amazing information and is a myriad of themes and topics this is the book for you. By the way, you will be able to read through it quickly and find some wonderful make up tips for yourself and it’s pretty amazing how colors affect the way you look for example the color orange is extremely flattering with lighting , that is why lots of beautiful pictures are taken with orange ranges of colors so I won’t go into this too much further but it’s awesome book and I think it’s definitely a best seller. It should be on the seller list. I would be ashamed to recommend it to a talented artist or photographer because it is sophisticated as
