Wonderart Butterfly Fantasy Latch Hook Kit, 15" X 20"

I've done Wonderart Latch Hook Kits before This one is rather small, so it fits easily on your lap. Be forewarned: Wonderart does not include latch hooks with their kits, so that beginners would have to purchase that item separately. There are other kits that do include latch hooks. Yarn is included, but, unlike when I first did latch hooks, you have to separate the yarn. The kit also gives you a blank canvas (i.e., the picture isn't stamped on the campus), so you have to move back and forth between the color coded graphic and the canvas. I use little plastic bags to separate the colored yarns, and then put them in order. The yarn is not uniformly cut, and, with some kits, it is hard to distinguish between colors (easiest way is to see how many individual pieces are listed alongside color). This kit was a great value. Many of the other kits I liked were not reviewed. Also, many of my recent latch hooks have been animals (lots of puppies/dogs), so the lighthouse was a welcome change. I like lighthouses. One caveat: some kits, like a basset hound I did recently came with latch hooks and yarn, and when I was finished I had a rug. With Wonderart, if you want to hang your handiwork or turn it into a rug, you will either have to fine someone who will do it for you, or, if you are more adept than I am, purchase the finishing products separately. Excuse typos.

It's not easy to follow the color key. I gifts one and her mat broke every other time she hooked. Probably not great for beginners..It is a nice big set, which is nice.

I am a beginner, never done a Latch Hook before, I had NO issues getting going with this!The canvas has blue lines to indicate each 10 steps to make it easier to count, it does not contain a printed image ontop of the canvas, you simply follow the paper canvas that comes with it and it is extremely easy to use!The latches are huge, and I, that have never done a Latch hook in my life had no issue picking up how to do it.I am almost done, I do about 2 rows / hours. I would say this is about 50-60 rows in total.So far it looks like the yarn will last without issues.The only issues I have had was one pile of yarn was cut in a different length - they were longer, ended up trimming them a bit.Also noticed there is different thickness of the yarn, some are thinner (like my orange vs my yellow)But so far it still looks awesome so I am not going to remove any stars!Love this thing, well worth the money!PS - remember to buy the Latch Hook! It's not included! :)

I haven't been latch hooking for long, but liked the look of the eagle and flag, so ordered it at a reasonable price. The first thing I noticed out "out of the bag" is how coarse the "canvas" is. It was folded neatly to fit in the packaging, but to unfold it wasn't so easy because of how coarse the product is. Once everything was taken out of the packaging, I started to set up for beginning to do the latch hooking. I found that so many of the coloured threads were so close in colour, it was very difficult to figure out which colour was which. Even my wife had trouble figuring all this out, and her eyesight is far better than mine. Other latch hook kits that I have done, came with a card that has each coloured thread knotted onto the card, with a number and tiny "shape" added alongside each piece of thread , to help figure out which colour is which. Something else I noticed was that some of the threads were thicker than others, which to me would have made hooking them through the canvas very difficult, something I had learned from other latch hook kits that I have worked on. All in all, this was a total waste of money, please don't waste your money on this kit, there's plenty of other great ones out there!!

Was very disappointed that the design was not printed on the canvas. Bought this for my 7 year old grandson knowing I would have to help him a little but I will end up having to sit with him for every step of the way. I am not one to read reviews on everything which if I had I would not have purchased it, one reason this design was purchased was because it was more for a boy, don't companies think boys do this type of craft and others more things are for girls very few selections for boys I all types of crafts. The price was the only positive

I bought this kit for my boys for Christmas. They have yet to start the project. I think they are a little scared to try the latch hook process because there are multiple steps to do. I was a little disappointed the base in which you add the yard was not marked or coded. There is a guide to use as a reference but that takes additional time. The overall quality seems to be good for the money spent. I did have to purchase a tool in order to use this kit but I knew that before I purchased.

I bought this for my adult granddaughter and she is quite happy with the design. The colors of the lighthouse and background are vibrant and the size of the rug will be great as a wall hanging. It is a big project, so I would recommend it for someone who likes a bit of a challenge and doesn't mind investing the time required to complete it. I bought a smaller project (12"x12") for my 12 year old granddaughter, one that was more suitable to her age and attention span.
