City Fall rises to a great read.
Oh where to start with this? I guess with the fact that I've been a fan of these characters since Mirage put out their first book back in the 80's. Now here we are all these years later with a brand new property reboot in full color and with some of THE BEST artwork these characters have ever seen. I truly feel that Matues hit his stride on this one. This artist can draw EVERYTHING well: environments, animals, people and has a great sense of cinematic boarding in his panel layouts. The color is great. What I truly love most about this new pass on the Turtles is the rich backstory that explains their existence in the first place. Everything is tied together believably and fleshing out the history of the foot clan plus it's villain just sets up a better antagonist for our four heroes to overcome. I've always loved the individual personality traits that make each character special and I LOVE a good sibling dynamic in any story but I will admit I've always been drawn to the stories that focused on Leonardo (not sure why). He reminds me very much of the character architype from Hero With A Thousand Faces and as such, I find it always makes for great story when you have something really awful happen to your protagonist (like seeing him become the villain) then watch how the character deals with and overcomes these issues. The City Fall Saga did not disappoint. I loved the idea (SPOILER ALERT) that the Shredder had been planning this abduction for weeks if not months with only the reader in the know and that Raph, whose temper has always been a problem, is so blinded by his own rage that he has no idea he's leading his own brother right into the trap. Also REALLY loved the new costume design for Leo as foot soldier, nice. So buy the book....you won't be disappointed. The only bad thing, which has NOTHING to do with the story is the really shotty, cheap quality binding inherent in all these books. The spine that holds these books together is crap and the pages tend to come apart very easily. I've already had to have two books replaced. I expected better quality of materials for the book price so maybe buy digital. Either way...great read.

Things are starting to get intense!
Things are taking a turn for the worse as violence in the city is getting out of control and the Shredder is planning on bringing the city to its knees. This is where the Shredder's plan comes in where he's planning to convert one of the Turtles to his side. A lot of twist and turns in this City Fall arc! I can see why It is split into two books because it would be too much to handle in one big book.

The binding isn't that good..
I was excited to finally get my first ever TMNT comic. Came in the mail on time which was good and I started to read it. Excellent story! It's pretty dark but that's how TMNT was meant to be. Unfortunately for me, the binding started to fall apart and it was on the day I got it! I was disappointed about that but nothing a little gorilla glue can't fix. Great story, not good book binding unless you're willing to glue it up.

Does not disappoint
Amazing art, bold plot, great lineup of characters. Eastman’s art is still my favorite, but the other artists are no slouches either. Top notch turtle story

Reminds me of Frank Miller
In a good way. Very dark and moody. Time for a showdown with that Foot clan. Onto City Fall II.

What?
Did I miss something? I feel like this cut out a few issues between. I don't even remember Slash or Alopex being before.

Epic
While this story may require some background knowledge from the various micro-series to have its full impact, it is still very enjoyable and fairly self-contained. Tom Waltz has crafted a tight, well-paced story and Mateus Santolouco's artwork is exceptional. Also, Dan Duncan, Ben Bates, Andy Kuhn and Ross Campbell contribute a few pages, which is nice to see..

A great story but distracting art.
The story continues the quality this IDW run has held consistently since issue one and the character development is so good; story wise this is a 5. But I find the artwork of Mateus Santolouco inconsistent. Some of the action shots are incredibly well drawn, and some of the double page spreads are great - I love Leo’s nightmare drawings - but close-ups of the turtles don’t work for me. The pupils don’t work and sometimes the turtles faces don’t look like the turtles. The same is true for splinter. The human characters are well drawn, as are the turtles antagonists, but the turtles just irk me (each to their own though). But overall a continuation of the great work this series is doing.
