What a great find! love it, love it!!
What a beautiful movie, everything about it, was perfect. Gum, the explorer, Nana, etc., All of the girls were amazing, as they moved toward their careers, how wonderful to see such happiness,, their eyes glowed, their voices were sparkles of sunshine on the screen. You must watch this movie, it takes you back to childhood adventures, friendships that blossomed, tears of lost hope, turned to joy, with flower petals being spread for the bride and groom, as they had waited, for so long to be married, and now it is happening, with all the family gathered around, in a fairy tale setting. Love, at its purest, emotions that shook the screen, only to be fulfilled in time. A magic movie, for everyone, young, adults, grandma, everyone, this is a must see. I thought about a perfect day for tea,, flowers, music, and Ballet Shoes,, showing to all that joined this party!! Enjoy!!

HORRID WARNING AT BEGINNING IS UNTRUE
So silly. There was a warning about drugs and violence, etc. at the beginning of the movie. Totally wrong.Although the ending was rushed, it was based on a series of books that would be more enlightening. It is all good if you ignore the little anomalies.Beautifully acted, never thought Harry Potter once, beautifully filmed. There wasn't one stiff performance. The movie flowed even with age jumps. I was expecting something completely different and was very surprised with what I got! Although I would not want the souvenirs Gum brought home! Babies! LOLIt is a nice movie for a family to sit and watch. However, younger boys might be bored...older boys would fall in love with the girls!A bit old-fashioned with a happy ending for everyone but nice to see it!Enjoy

It is a good story and the cast is excellent. I've never read the book, and I've only watched this movie in 7/2020. The title doesn't really match the movie. There are three girls and each reach for a different career. I wished the movie could've explained why Gum was away for over 12 years and more of how each of the girls struggled to reach their dream career. I didn't see their ending success. It was just kind of implied.

Not nearly as good as the 1975 version
The actors playing the Fossils were too old. The running time too short, with little time for plot or character development. Good production values and Emilia Fox was excellent.

Not near as bad as the reviews say! Well worth the watch
we were hesitant to watch it because some of the reviews werent so great! I watched this with my 13 yo teen daughter. We both really enjoyed it, yes the girls were bratty at times but doesnt that happen to most teens as some point? The storyline is very clean and they begin using Amen after their "vow" to each other because they need all the help they can get. I do recommend this movie!

Interesting flick.
Well shot, acted and paced. That pacing being pretty slow. As this is an in depth look at the upbringing of three sisters, that can be tolerated. What can't is the very cheesy ending where (heart, heart) everyone gets their wishes (heart, heart). Four deus ex machinas in a row can do that.Good for background.

Beautiful movie about coming of age for three girls
The movies is well acted and has a marvelous plot. Three girls who were orphaned as babies to a mother and her young daughter and through many courageous steps, hard work and working for one another all three have their dreams come through. It has a wonderful cast and great sets which makes the film feel like it is a dream.

A delightful film from a beloved book
This is a delightful film. The book was written in the 1930's, but its expression of young girls' hopes and dreams is timeless. The film is true to the book, with a few bizarre exceptions--what on earth was going on with Nana's hair, and where did the romance and all that smoking come from, and why? However, these anomalies are easily overlooked because the rest of the film really captures the look and feel of the book--the way I always pictured it in my mind. I only wish it could have been longer, so that we could have seen more of the story. Much of the casting is perfect--particularly Pauline, Gum, and Winifred. Emma Watson is the perfect Pauline! I highly recommend this movie for anyone over age 8 or 9, and hope that it sparks a resurgence of interest in all of Noel Streatfeild's "Shoes" books. Her stories embodied the concept of "girl power" long before the phrase was coined. Another "Shoes" film would be nice too--maybe someone will make Movie Shoes into a film. It would appeal to both boys and girls. One can only hope!

Charming and (mostly) accurate adaptation of Noel.Streatfield's classic story.
A delightful adaptation of Noel Streatfield's wonderful story, with an excellent cast all giving of their best, and Victoria Wood outstanding as Nana. It is a little oversentimental at times (Noel Streatfield was the least sentimental of writers) and some extra drama has been added here and there, including a love interest for Garny (Noel Streatfield never allowed any of that sort of thing in her books) but in general sticks quite closely to the original story. The period atmosphere is very well.done, and it all looks beautiful. I think Noel Streatfield would probably have liked it.

A BRILLIANT family film.
All I can say about this film is that it is good old fashioned family fun.It is the story of a poor family who struggle to get their 3 daughters into schools that specialise in acting, music & dance. It had me laughing, cheering & crying all the way through. If it comes out on Blu-ray I am having it!

Excellent movie
I read the book many years ago as a child & it's one of my favourites. Having watched & enjoyed the film, I decided to buy my own copy. It's reasonably true to the book (unlike some movies) so would recommend to any Noel Streatfield fan.

Ballet perfect!
Delightful film of the book which is a perennial favourite with young girls and was a favourite of mine in the 1960s. The acting is spot-on with a young Emma Watson acting a far cry from her Harry Potter role. Emilia Fox is perfect as the harrassed guardian of the three precocious and talented girls, Victoria Wood the perfect foil as nanny-come-dogsbody. This was perfect Christmas viewing and I recommend it as a present for any ballet-mad girl between 8 and 14.

Its great fun.
My granddaughters can't get enough of this film and ask to see it every time they come and stay. It has alot in it to discuss afterwards - sibling rivalry, jealousy, poverty, friendship, generosity and growing up. This makes it sound very preachy, but it isnt. Its great fun.
