The Wii equivalent of a great independent film
This is a great game, but relatively unknown and unappreciated by the Wii masses. Why? The company that makes it does not have the big budget marketing machine behind it and is very much dependent on word of mouth alone. So here it is: I am a father of three (9, 7 and 5). We only have one gaming system in our home, Wii, for two reasons. 1. The Wii system tends to market games that have less graphic or realistic violent content, and 2. Wii also markets many games that can accommodate as many as 4 players and challenge the players to cooperate, as opposed to compete. These are the types of games I want my children to play and Pirates of Plundarrr was such a pleasant surprise on both points. It is basically a pirate dust up, moving through levels, defeating hordes of cartoonish creatures along the way. The weapons are a lot of fun, earning new more powerful ones as you move along, including things like an innocent looking pink rifle that has a hilarious impact on the enemies. You also earn new characters as you go. Characters power up as they play, and can develop skills unique to certain styles of weapons. Each of my children chose different types and I was excited when they and I began naturally working out strategies together to make best use of our skills. Playing and learning at the same time. The graphics are vibrant and fun, the music is exciting without being annoying over time. Just a solid fun game, and well worth the $15 we paid for it. The game does have its limitations. Sometimes it is difficult to follow your character in the melee, there are not many things to do with the booty you collect after you have purchased all the weapons, some of the movements and character interaction is simple, and it lacks some of the on line bells and whistles one gets with a game from one of the big brand game developers. But if you want just a fun, clever, humorous game which has the merits of Wii games listed above, then this is an excellent choice.

The good kind of ARrrrrghh
Do you like Pirates? Do you like Castle Crashers? Do you like to ignore haters? That's all you need to know! The controls aren't laser-precise as Castle Crashers but it's pretty close. I'd give it about a 93% control responsiveness only due to a weird roll you can do. It isn't detrimental as you get used to it. Also I wish jump and attack were inversed but to each their own. It's not a platformer so isn't distracting after a few minutes. The co-op is spot-on.The graphics are some of the best you'll see on the Wii or anything else in this cartoon beat-em-up genre. Not a ton of on-screen enemies but you'd get absolutely annihilated if there were more anyway.Difficulty is a bit stiff but refreshing in the land of ez-mode games.Levels aren't too long or too short. The enemies are varied and refreshing, just like Castle Crashers.Playable characters are great, as are their weapons and costumes.Music might get a tiny bit repetitive if you ONLY listen to the music, but fits with the game and sound fx perfectly.Basically, a pretty good way to spend a few hours without feeling like it was wasted like most videogames.Easily a solid 8.5/10.

Great for those looking for a "Castle Crashers" for the WIii
Well you may or may not have heard of the fun beat-em-up known as "Castle Crashers" for the PS3/Xbox360, but if you did you would know it is quite a fun comical game. You and 3 others could choose your own knight and battle your way through hordes of enemies collecting new weapons and leveling up as you progressed. A nice new turn for the Genre throwing in RPG elements made for a perfect match.Though sadly, this title was not released on the Wii do to the Downloadable size limit of the Wiiware titles. But you should rejoice if you have come across this title. While not exactly the same as Castle Crashers. Pirates Plundarrr offers nearly the same experience for the Wii.The good.local 4 player co-op (drop in and out at anytime)Good customization (customize what weapons/magic your character will be great at using.)Lots of weapons.Unlockable enemy characters.A nice overworld filled with so much to explore. The Bad.No online Co-op (though given the company it doesn't suprise me)The difficulty (Castle crashers is like a walk in the park compared to this game.)Control options. (Sadly you can only use one control scheme: Which is the Wiimote turned sideways)But to keep things short. Pirates Plundarrr is a great alternative for those looking for a Castle Crashers on the Wii.5/5

Starngely addicting....
I got this game for my kids, 8 and 10 year old boys, thinking it would be a mild diversion for them. They became obsessed with it. They thought it was funny and challenging. It was accidentally left at someones house and they missed it terribly and tried saving up for another one because they couldn't wait for it. When we did get it back, they immediately took up with it again and didn't stop until they had defeated the game. We definitely got our money's worth out of this game!

It was really scratched up- but, played
My 8 yr old son played this at a friend's house. He lost interest in it in a few weeks. When I went to sell it at a local game/DVD swap shop- they rejected it due to the high amount of scratches. (which were there when WE bought it) So, I gave it away. He did enjoy it for awhile, it just didn't hold his interest, though. (Maybe for a 6 yr old, it'd hold up longer?)

Big hit with all of my kids
I bought this game last summer for my 8 yr old's birthday. It is the first game that my 4 yr old has been able to learn to play on the wii and it's so fun to watch all 3 of my kids (4 and 8 yr old boys, 6 yr old girl) work together playing this game and get so excited as they beat all the levels. They play it all the time! They have beaten the whole game now and are convinced there is a 2nd one, but I can't find one. Hopefully there will be a follow-up game!
