A great but tough read!
This book almost threw me into depression at one point, I felt discouraged at the thought that raising my strong willed child would constantly be a battle. But realizing this has also helped my husband and I create plans & start implementing strategies now (the early years). It also gave me insight to recognize what type of child I was & realizing how I turned out despite the odds and sometimes inadequate parenting. It also brought to light some issues still at play today with my parents. I highly recommend this book and encourage you to keep reading it, especially when you start to feel discouraged or hopeless in this battle of raising a strong willed child.Raquel J Mertz (Mom of 3 ages 9,8 & 5)

Shut-yer-mouth-before-I-shut-it-for-you Family values at their best!
My husband read the first one and a half pages and promptly told me that he was not willing to read any more of this book. Pondering why he quickly abandoned the book, I was able to get to page 4 myself before giving up. The author states, "Gays parade arm-in-arm, and prostitutes advertise their services. I stand there thinking, what in Heavens name have we allowed to happen to our kids?" Such a close-minded, bigoted author cannot possibly give advice that would be useful for raising open-minded, if not difficult, children. The cover of the book states that this is from "America's Best-Loved Family Advocate"; I take this phrase to mean close-minded, pre-depression, shut-yer-mouth-before-I-shut-it-for-you Family values. Please save your money and either A) go to a public library and read a few pages before checking out a parenting book, or B) find a different parenting book.I am not typically pro-book burning, but I am going to make an exception for this one.

A MUST read for parents
Wow, did this book ever help us. Thank you so much Dr Dobson for writing it. Tremendous insights into changing the bad behaviors of your child. Makes me ask, "Why didn't I think to do that?!" So very encouraging. This book is worth it's weight in GOLD if you have small children.
