Special Supplies Sensory Compression Vest Deep Pressure Comfort

Perfect for my sensory seeking toddler!
My son (2.5 years) has sensory processing issues, and one of these is needing additional vestibular stimulation. Lots of swinging, spinning, and banging. When he gets visibly overwhelmed by this need, we give him a "big squish" -deep pressure hug- which calms him down instantly. When we introduced this vest, we called it a "squish vest," and he was hooked! On the first day he happily wore it for hours, and was upset when we told him he couldn't sleep in it. We have had it for about a month now, and he regularly picks it up, brings it to me, and asks for "my squish on." He's a tall, lean boy, wearing 3T or 4T. The vest wraps all the way around him so the velcro straps on each side *just* meet in the middle. Enough pressure for him now, and plenty of room to grow! And the very sturdy construction seems like it will last a long time. And the velcro patches are the kind that are smooth, not scratchy loops, so that's a bonus. His smile when he wears it says it all. Best purchase ever!

Fantastic compression vest! Comfortable and secure feeling.
Young adult on the autism spectrum. I have bought two of the Special Supplies Sensory Compression Vests in different sizes so I can compare both at the same time, and then very easily return whichever one doesn't fit the best. I ordered a size small and a size medium, and for me, the small is perfect!I'm kind've at the awkward size for vests, I'm in between a small and medium, but that size doesn't exist, and that's fine. My stats for comparison, I'm 5' 4", 120lbs, chest size of 31" under the armpits. Though I'm bigger than the measurements and recommended size, the small vest hugs me perfectly with room to grow. It stops right above my belly button, which is fine, but could be a tad longer in between the small and medium length. The armholes are sized just right so the back of the vest doesn't dig under my armpits.I love this vest. It's comfortable! It's not stiff like the weighted/compression combo vests, it's nice and flexible, the velcro is way more quiet and softer, and holds insanely well. Like other vests, it's made of this nice neoprene material I love to touch and feel, especially because it's perforated with a dimple pattern, which is a very nice texture to touch. I tried one other combo vest that had a mesh window front and back on the upper chest, and that created an awful sensory experience as my skin felt exposed and was more itchy, but also because the mesh was designed for "cooling", it replaced the dimple pattern on the neoprene, which was originally designed for cooling...I have tried a few weighted/compression combo vests over the years and after using them for so long, I've come to the conclusion that a combo compression vest with weight is an awful sensory experience as the weights are on the inside of the vest, and this is bad because in order to feel the compression effect, the vest has to be snug, squashing the weighted bean bags into your body, and that is the worst feeling ever. And let's be honest, you cannot fit enough extra weighted bean bags into a weighted compression vest so that it'll work effectively for an adult or bigger child. Also the velcro on the pouches inside those vests are sharp and are way worse than a shirt tag on the back of your neck, and with those you HAD to wear something under it unlike this compression vest, you can wear it directly and be comfortable! The velcro on the outside of those combo vests are so bad, they're too LOUD and very very prickly, I try to avoid adjusting those at all times and just slip the vest on and off. So yeah, those combo weighted compression vests? They're a terrible sensory experience. For me anyway...I recommend if you need a weighted vest AND compression vest, get both separately as weighted compression vests DON'T WORK. Put the compression vest on first, and then get a loose and heavy weighted vest and then you'll have the best of both worlds. I'm just going to use my old weighted/compression vest for weight only while wearing this compression vest. What are you waiting for, buy this vest today! Take it from me, someone with autism that is very picky when it comes to my sensory system.I will soon add pictures to help support this review.

Too tight for comfort
Unfortunately it was too tight for my child to like. Returned.

Great vest, check size carefully before selecting!
I'm pleased with this vest. The biggest down-side for me personally is how fast my pre-schooler outgrew the XS. They are very tall for their age and must have gone through a growth spurt around the time I ordered it, so I probably should have gone with a size up. It is a few inches above the waist now, but that's my mistake for ordering too small. The vest itself is lightweight, very adjustable with velcro tabs on shoulders and sides for better control with precision & kennel of desired compression. It instructs to wash with velcro pieces all closed with their corresponding side. I hung mine upside-down to dry. I have a very sensitive nose, so I did a few more things (leaving it hanging outside for a day or 2, spraying fabric freshener / deodorizer in it, then washing again with some scent-enhancing beads, etc.) to try and get that manufacturing-material smell to be less abrasive on my super[annoying]nose, haha. It did help a lot with the chemical odor, & it also showed me right away how well-made the vest is, after all I put it through! Not faded, still looks brand new & just as bright as when it arrived! My child is hot-natured, and though they didn't mind the vest being put on & worn (no struggles, nor plugging ears with velcro adjustments, but every child is different, as we know!), their t-shirt underneath did show signs of perspiration after first use (after about 20min. wearing, & walking around inside the house, which thermostat is always set to 70 degrees F if possible!) but also to note- my child gets hot under a 5%-weight weighted blanket in no time at all. So, individual results may vary, hah!Overall I would say I'm quite satisfied with the vest, but I do wish I had ordered a size up, & I'm sure I voided any return / exchange possibilities after all the washing & "treating" the vest prior to first use, haha, so i kept it anyway. It is very soft fabric as well - which hasn't changed since it first arrived! Good quality item for its intended purpose. Just didnt seem to be very breathable, but I'm not sure any compression vest could be effective while also super breathable! Overall, I would definitely recommend it!
